I read (what I strongly believe) was a Harlequin romamce novel that was published in the 80s/90s but cannot remember the title or author. It was about a woman named Kerry and her childhood best friends Adam. She was an ugly duckling and he was very good looking and popular. She began to have unspoken romantic feelings for him, but he didn't see her that way. They remained friends thru college, up until he married someone else. At his wedding, an intoxicated Adam gave Kerry a "friendly" kiss on the lips. It essentially was a kiss goodbye.
Adam eventually divorces and sets out to find Kerry. She has outgrown the ugly duckling phase and is very attractive. Unbeknownst to her, Adam buys out the company she works for in an attempt to get close to her again. She doesn't trust him and wards off his attempts to start a romantic relationship. There is a scene where Kerry auctions a homemade dinner for a company charity event. Adam makes an outrageous bid and wins. On his way to her home to collect on his prize he he stops to help a woman change her tire in a rain.storm. By the time he gets to Kerry's he is soaked and very sick. He stays at Kerry's while recovering.
Eventually he wins her over. :)

Does anyone know which book I am referring to? I read it 20+ years ago, but I teenager it being a very fun and witty read. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

Dear Diary (Silhouette Special Edition) by Natalie Bishop from 1990

From girlhood on, Kerry Camden dutifully documented the truth: males were untrustworthy in love. Adam Shard, however, gave her faith in friendship, and through teen tribulations he remained her best buddy, her confidant when her diary wasn't enough. Still, they'd had to grow up, and he'd married another . . . leaving his "buddy" feeling strangely betrayed.

Years later, Adam returned--alone--and his reaction to Kerry was far more than friendly. Kerry panicked as pent-up passion for her old pal clamored for release. Had she pressed a lifetime of warm, moist yearning between some dry, dusty pages? Only her diary knew for sure. But Adam was probing, penetrating, threatening to spring the lock on her most intimate secrets ...

Happy reading if this is it!
