My favorite would have to be Shaq Fu for the Sega Genesis. I'm very serious too. I really do like it, but probably because I have so many childhood memories tied to it.

Yeah FF7 is a good choice, it is a damn near perfect RPG.

Another near perfect game, that I still can't resist playing for hours at a time is Metal Gear Solid.

For me it's gotta be Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. You can tell the true mettle of a game when the graphics become outdated but the story shines brighter the more times you play.

Had to jump to end... but my opinion, ~ Ultima IV ~

The "karma" type system was way ahead of it's time and totally brilliant. If memory serves me correctly it was the first RPG or video game for that matter that did this which greatly affected the gameplay. Richard Garriott/Lord British was a genius with this game. Too bad that later on EA had to buy out & kill Origin Systems. I still have my metal Ankh hanging from a chain by my computer I game on.

How about if we are old enough to remember games on a 4k TRS-80 by typing them in Basic from books with titles like "101 Games from Radio Shack" and not even having a cassette deck yet to save them to? So everytime you wanted to play a game, you had to type it in. Saving grace with a tape deck later (also used for sound clicks when Play & Record have to be held down to work) and getting cassettes in the mail because there were no games to buy in stores. The 70s man...

PS: "Scott Adam's Adventures" series were awesome when they started to come out, I should still have some around somewhere as I played every one as they were released. My TRS-80 I upgraded by ordering the very expensive RAM chips to a wopping 16k that you had to sister/daughter-chip stack solder them, woot! Soldering was scary, cuz if you messed up, it was $$$ down the drain. Not to mention giant floppy disks where a pipe-dream away, extremely expensive. Ok memory lane mode off...

I remember playing all those on the computer at my elementary school. ( Our librarian is the one who got me into starwars and the entire sci fi genre)

Lots of great games listed here.

Final Fantasy 6 (3 in the states) takes it for me, hands down. 2nd would probably go to Shadow of the Colossus.
