Jack is always appreciated more in those parts of the world that value writing for its own sake. The bulk of contributors who assembled the 44 volume Vance Integrated Edition were non-Americans. I think this is largely due to his focus on detail, mood, setting, and social perspective.
Americans want plot and action, most closely approached in Vance's "Planet of Adventure" series.
