I am trying to find a book I read years ago (Sometime around 1996-1998 I'd guess) that feel like I want to re-read.

What I can remember is that the book starts out mainly from the point of view of a group of astronauts who are orbiting earth. They lose communications, then notice that all plant life that used to look green from their viewpoint is not red. They don't know whats going on and the time for their reentry and landing is fast approaching. They decide to go ahead and try to make the reentry and landing without communications, and without knowing what happened on earth.... the story goes from there.

I think the title has Red or Blood or Crimson or some mention of the color in the title... like Red Earth, Blood Earth, Red Planet, Crimson Skies.... but my googlefu is weak and I can't find a match... Any help would be appreciated!
