my vacuum airship
is not possible today
some day it will be

-

a time traveler
went back in time to Woodstock
but then she got caught

fleeing the G-man
a hippie gets caught up too
and now they are lost

cave men, dinosaurs,
are they in past or future?
a grand adventure!

-

my girlfriend and I
will sing "Penny Lane" at the
con in Japanese

which isn't easy
because neither she nor I
can speak Japanese

**edit**

she misjudged how hard
karaoke can be when
you don't know the words

and then she got sick
and missed a lot of practice
so was not ready

so I will just sing
Moonlight Densetsu instead
the first song I learned

next time she and I
will practice our sweet butts off
and sing Penny Lane

had to draw a chart
to keep those relationships
straight in my old head

and i had to look
at it when writing all that
got two guys mixed up

the DNA guy
and the time machine guy too
wife wouldn't like that

married to two wives
one has another husband
the other does not

she has a boyfriend
and they work together on
building habitats

not like today but
recreating the ancient
dead ecosystems

so the dinosaurs
her husband rescues from time
have a place to live

but he couldn't do
that unless his other wife
kept machines working

her other husband
knows all that DNA stuff
but SHE fixes Jeeps

the DNA guy
has a boyfriend himself who
works the time machine

and what of the two
teenagers who are dating
while working for them

Thank you Bob, as a good Colorado booster (at least as much as a Texan can be) I was obligated to submit an entry.

you're right, it's Spring and time for haiku:

When I saw this old thread pop up, I thought for sure someone had posted the following that I saw the other day. I was going to go looking for this old thread to post it here.

"NASA holds haiku contest to send a message to Mars"
http://venturebeat.com/2013/05/04/message-to-mars

Here is the link to get your haiku in to be included on the MAVEN mission to Mars (only the top 3 haikus will get sent). Registration required->

Not a science fiction novel, but disease-themed and inspiring nonetheless:

Another year to
Reap what the author's harvest
From their fertile minds.

Currently reading Eric Brown's Weird Space: The Devil's Nebula and will be reading Kim Stanley Robinson's 2312 soon - both published last month. Would love to get my paws on David Brin's Existence, too.

The plenitude of
Brown, Brin, Banks and Robinson!
Indulge the glutton!

With the filling wheat,
Comes the peripheral chaff:
McDevitt returns.

Jack McDevitt has The Cassandra Project coming out later this year... which isn't even on my to-buy list this year. Looks to be a good year with Hamilton's Great North Road in the mix, too.
