"Sams looks at our hard-wired tendency for religion"

That's it, we are hard wired for religion. Where in the brain and how, I would like to know?

Re OP: No. That requires a living being, which the sun is not: it cannot reproduce.

Yehonala says:
No, the Sun is not a conscious being. There is no sign of any structure inside the Sun which can carry out any kind of information processing, let alone conscious thought.

Furthermore, the Sun was not created by evolution. Consciousness evolved on Earth among living things, and was selected for by evolution, since superior information-processing ability often leads to longer survival and more offspring. It seems very unlikely (actually, astronomically unlikely) that consciousness would appear at random in something that just came into being spontaneously.

Actually, this is also an argument against the existence of God, although I have no interest in going very far in that direction.

This sort of metaphysics doesn't belong in the Science Forum. Put it in the Religion Forum. Actually, to call it metaphysics is an insult to metaphysics. I read the original, Aristotle's Metaphysics, and it was a marvel of lucid, carefully crafted reasoning. Even though Aristotle was wrong, what he said generally had a clear meaning.. I can't say the same for the stuff you cited.

Yes, Father Sol is most definitely a conscious being as is Mother Earth and Aunt Luna. This 'Holy(4) Trinity(7)' is another very real definition of GOD(7_4). The billions of watts of energy(74) Mother Earth receives daily that then interacts with this planit and its moon is the 'Holy Spirit'.

ooo ... goo ... god

Yes, every chaotic system exhibits self-organization, interconnectedness, underlying patterns (i.e. GOD=7_4 or FOD=6_4), feedback, strange attractor/butterfly effect.

Yes, this universe behaves as a 'universal quantum computer' (GOD).

However, there is proof of an Intelligent Designer. GOD=7_4 or FOD=6_4 is very real! See my NASA conference presentation at http://planetnestor.blogspot.com
