Use my niece's credit card....no problem. If you really want to no problem. Just pay the amount you need to pay into her bank account. Then, everything will be done for you.

That is cool you have a Kindle in Singapore! I was interested to know...
Do you get your books via the Internet and then download them to your Kindle?
Are you close to many USA Families that live there? Would there be any interest in a teaching aid for kids there? This is a math teaching aid so it could apply to local families there as well. What do you think?

We actually know more local families here than expats/USA families. We homeschool, so my kids don't get to know any of the other American students at the international school. The kids they all know and hang out with are from our church.

I do think the teaching aid for the Kindle is a great idea, but there aren't a lot of people that I know of using the Kindle over here. If you could also make it available for iPhone or other e-readers, I would imagine there would be more of an interest. Hope that helps!

I just received my Kindle-2 from Amazon.com few days ago and had begun reading my ebooks. But I was shocked yesterday afternoon when I tried to turn on the switch, the screen became distorted - vertical strips of white lines formed as a patch so that it covered a quarter of the screen-page. Moreover the screen is darkened so that I can only see faded and dim words or image. When I turned off the Kindle, the vertical strips of white lines patch remain. As far as I am aware, it has not dropped, and I have treated it so dearly. Do you think Amazon.com will replace it with a new one? If so, how do I go about doing it?

That's too bad, but not unheard of. It usually comes from pressure being applied to the screen -- not necessarily resulting from being dropped. Give me the total details of where you bought it, how much you paid, dates of purchase, the name under which it was bought, etc., etc., and I'll try to get hold of the Kindle people and see what they say re return, etc.

hi,

i am from the philippines and recently bought a kindle thru my sis who lives in the states...you can still purchase books from kindle even if you dont have a us credit card...just buy amazon gift card with your credit card (even if its not a us card) and use the gc's to buy books from kindle...and download it on ur computer and then upload it to your kindle device...

Actually, I have 3 pieces of Kindle-2 under my account. My first kindle, for no reason, has its screen grossly damaged. My second kindle, I gave it to my niece in US. And now, I have my third kindle arrived about a week ago, and is doing well. The same ebooks are downloaded into all the three kindles. I think we can have up to 5 kindles storing same ebooks as long as they are under one account.

Meanwhile, can anybody advise me, how do I report to the Amazon.com about the damage of my 1st kindle-2. I need to return to them as soon as possible, as it is rather new (within 2 months from the time of receiving this from Amazon.com) and has become "white elephant". I would like to have a replacement.

i was using the gift cards approach for a few months now. However, only today, i found that i can't buy any kindle books (after 20+ successful purchases). Do you know whether Amazon have changed something in the back ground? Let me know if you can still purchase kindle books on Amazon.. Thanks!

Strangely enough, in the receipt email I got, the billing address was a US vPost address that is in my address book even though I'm using gift card money. (I'd used that address before but deleted it later.)

I was surprised to find out that I couldn't buy ebooks using gift-card anymore when all the while, I've been doing likewise, and I stilll have $$$ in it. So, what I did was, I rebooted my lapop, and guess what, when I made an attempt to puchase via my giftcard, it works again. What a relief....

i need help...

ive been buying kindle books for about a year now using amazon gift cards (since i dont have a us credit card and i live in the philippines) and today i was trying to buy a book and it told me this
