J. Bondy says:
Do Kindle Fire's work good in the Philippines?

Posted on Jun 12, 2012 2:11:34 AM PDT
Rush says:
The Kindle Fire (KF) works fine in the Philippines - that is if you're only into books.

As for apps, you can't download anything from Amazon's Android App Store - unless you're using a US-based IP address (I guess). As an alternative, though, you can visit m.getjar.com. You can download apps from that site and they will be directly installed to your KF.

I hope this helps. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas (if you're Filipino).

Thanks for your help. I am American serving here. I hope to use US - based IP but don't know to do that.

I can't stream videos, but have had no problems downloading apps to my Fire in Asia. I don't have a US IP address, but I do have a US based credit card. Hope it works out for you. I love my Fire.

Rush says:
Yeah, malay<3sia is right. I don't think it's about the IP.

As per Amazon's help pages, your billing address must be in the US. What if you just enter a US address as your billing address (even if you're in the Philippines)? Maybe, that will work.

malay<3sia says:
Your billing address as entered with Amazon must be the actual billing address for your credit card. I don't think it matters where you personally are located as long as your credit card is based in the US. J. Bondy said he/she is an American serving in the Philippines so should have no problem as long as there is a credit card with a valid US address on file.

J. Bondy says:
Yes, my billing address is the US. But when on the internet it might read the Philippines IP. Ocassionally on the computer I get blocked from certain items because of being in the Philippines IP. It sounds like it will work fine. I am excited to try it.

Right. So, J. Bondy, were you able to order? :)

- This is more of a general question.

Got my Kindle Fire last week and it works great here in the Philippines. No problems for the first week. It's a handy tool to have.

Hello J. Bondy, Just wondering have you been able to stream or download video? I live in the Dominican Republic for health reasons but go back to States in summer or in fall. Also spend time in Canada. I use the Kindle apps but would love to get the Fire but only if it does the whole shebang. I already have to many regular ereaders, I don't want another! Therefore I'm curious if you get everything advertised plus Prime..Thanks

J. Bondy says:
Yes really like the K F. Yes to prime but of course no free shipping to this side of the world.

Guys. if you want a U.S. IP while outside of the U.S. -- go to www.strongvpn.com. Their service is outstanding ($45 per quarter)and you can choose where your want your server to be (San Fran, Dallas, etc.)). I'm in the Philippines and I've been using it for years. Having StrongVPN even allows me to download Netflix and Hulu when I want to. Enjoy.

No it won't work cause your IP address is in the Phil's. Sign up for VPN , virtual private network so you'll be able to stream videos from amazon instant videos, Netflix etc.... Even if your in the Philippines.

I just came back from the Philippines in August. I took my Kindle fire out with me and it worked just fine. I was able to buy a new episode of my shows I follow here in the states as well as books for my wife. I am pretty sure it just needs a valid U.S address for your cc info. As mine worked perfectly fine and streamed great once I got reliable wifi.

Where did you bought yours? :)

I sent one to a friend of mine who lives in the Philippines on Mindanao she says it will not work correctly for her wondering if you could give me some advice to tell her
