I have owned Pandemic for about two years now and every new person I introduce to it has loved it. If you like the idea of the players working together against the game, I would recommend GHOST STORIES STRATEGY BOARD GAME. The theme is completely different from Pandemic but the cooperative feel and the "against all odds" victories are highly rewarding. Also, (a step into a much more complex game here) if you are into H.P. Lovecraft horror/fiction try Arkham Horror. This is a game where the players must prevent one of the great evils of Lovecraft mythos from awakening and enslaving or otherwise destroying the world. If you are not willing to leave the world of Pandemic, there is an expansion out Pandemic: On the Brink Expansion that adds game modes that are FAR more challenging as well as a mode where one player can act as a Bio-terrorist!
I hope I was able to help, and by the way...welcome to the world of great boardgames! If you are looking for more information on boardgames, the accepted online resource is www.boardgamegeek.com. Go there if you want to ask some very seasoned hobbyists their opinions of games or discuss strategies or...well just about anything to do with boardgames.
Excellent. Thank you very much. We can't stop playing Pandemic. I love the concept of it being different every time we play. I also love playing as a group against all odds. I will definitely look into the two games you recommended.
I strongly recommend Shadows Over Camelot if you like the co-operative gameplay style of Pandemic. One of the really fun things about it is that everyone gets a role card dealt to them at the beginning of the game...7 of the cards are the same, "Loyal" but there is 1 "Traitor" card. You keep the roles secret from the other players and the traitor wins the game if he keeps everyone else from winning, preferably without ever being identified as the traitor. It's a blast.
I really like Arkham Horror as well but, before you purchase it, you might want to consider that it does take over 3 hours to play and the rules are MUCH, MUCH more complicated than Pandemic. It's a very complex game and might be a bit of a turn-off for some people.
