Which tablet is better for watching videos?

I'm interested in buying either a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 or a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. I would use it primarily for watching movies and TV episodes. Amazon has an excellent video selection and a great screen, but the Samsung has a microSD port and can be used to download movies while in Canada as well as in the U.S. Which one would be the better choice?

I guess it depends on whether Amazon's videos or the videos on the micro SD are more important to you.

They're both good choices. If you get the 32 gig Fire you'll have room for quite a few videos to take to Canada with you. If you get the Samsung you won't have access to the Amazon videos.

For general uses the Samsung is the more flexible tablet but the Fire is pretty flexible too.

There's not a clear winner. You just have to pick one. They're both good.

Thank you very much for your help, Barry. After doing more research, I'm still a little stumped. The Samsung does seem to have a very good movie and TV collection. Fortunately, I have plenty of time to decide since it's months before I leave.

Samsung's video collection is pretty small compared to Amazon's. But if they have the shows and movies you want that's what really matters.

I use my tablets a lot for watching videos. I don't own a TV. Something else you might look at if you like old movies and TV shows (I do) is There are other sites with free old shows that you can download or stream as well, but they're by far the biggest. Most, but not all, of these shows will play fine on the either tablet. With a good video app such as MX Player they'll all play.

One other thing to consider, if you have a DVR, is that you can put those shows on a tablet. For that you'll want a lot of storage because they can get pretty large. I don't have a TV or a DVR so I can't offer any help with that but I know a lot of people do it.

Hi Barry:
I am unable to watch TV episodes on my Samsung Galaxy 10...It does not take adobe flash.
What can I use in order to watch Tv episodes?

What videos do you want to watch? If you want to watch Amazon Prime videos you can use the Boat browser and get flash for it from Adobe's website. For instructions on that just do a google search.

Netflix has an app to watch videos and it should work fine. I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" and it's fine for Netflix. I have other devices for Amazon videos so I haven't set it up for that but it can be done.

Recently Amazon began providing an app for their videos for the Ipad so my guess is it'll soon be available for Android as well, but that really is just my guess. I have no knowledge of their plans.

Other video sources should work okay, with a few exceptions.

I really don't know how to help more than that without knowing what videos you want to watch.

Everything depends on where those episodes are coming from.

Are you trying to watch them from the ABC network site? If so, try going to the Adobe flash archive site ( and download the most recent ( top of the list) version under the flash for android 4.0 list. Once you've installed and run flash, try to load the video again. I don't have the samsung tablet, but was able to watch videos from this way on my tablet that didn't comewith flash. If it still doesn't work, try downloading a different browser.
