5 days til it hits processing is pretty routine, for me, now. All the ones I've sent in since have made it through just fine.

Hey - Matthew - use the Contact Us button from one of the Help pages (link at very top of Amazon pages) to speak/e-mail/chat with one of their customer service agents about it. They don't want you to have a bad experience. Something wacky happened to me once with the trade-in program, and they helped me resolve it.

I sent of some textbooks on JAN 3rd and just NOW, TODAY, they received them. Apprently they are "late" now and will be sending them back. Last time I ever use Amazon after my prime runs out. Lost another customer.

I also was sending back a textbook to Indianapolis from Pittsburgh. I sent it on the 8th and it has been stuck in Cincy since the 10th... I just want my dang credit and this post office to get their act together.

I sent Amazon two textbooks on December 31st through USPS. The books were going to Indianapolis- I live in Chicago, so not that far. They were listed as 'delivered' on January 7th according to the tracker Amazon provides. By the 12th I was getting a bit concerned so I emailed customer service and was told that 'delivered' doesn't actually mean delivered, and to wait another week. It's now January 20th and my trade-in has expired. I'm awaiting a response from customer service. I'm upset because I will now have to wait for amazon to send the books back to me- if course that's IF someone can locate them. Even if I choose to attempt to trade them in again, Amazon is not paying the same price they were when I originally set up my trade-in, losing me about 40 bucks. This is absolutely ridiculous! How is it possible for them to have so many problems with their trade-in program? How can a package get lost between Chicago and Indianapolis? I guess next time I should just drive it there myself. All I can say is I'm going to hope Amazon finds my trade-in and honors the original selling price. After all, it isn't my fault they can't figure it out.

It's probably been delivered to the hold point fine, don't worry. It just doesn't hit Amazon's system until the company that processes these actually scan the bar code on the packing slip inside. They still have to pick it up at that hold point, bring it back to their warehouse and work their way though a mountain of boxes.

I sent mine in a few days before you, and it took a bit longer than it normally has for me in the past, as well. But after about 5 days as well, the status turned to "processing..." And then "Good, gift card deposited" by the end of that day. I expect they're just swamped right now, but it's in their best interest to run through the backlog quickly - they must get those books processed and re-posted for sale or rent in the next few days or risk sitting on them till practically Fall semester.

I mailed a book usps from NY on Jan 2- I was processed in Jersey City on the 3rd and was delivered in Cincinnati Ohio on the 5th and has not moved since- amazon says they still have not received it! I think it is a problem with usps- I have mailed several other books using ups and had my amazon account credited in days. This is ridiculous where are all our packages???

Actually, Carol, I'm a small business owner, too - I sell on Amazon. So, to put local money in my pocket, to enable me to buy things locally, like food (after Sallie Mae's taken their cut :) - please buy here on Amazon. Thanks!

Don't know about yours for sure K. Boyles, but mine had a big sitting and waiting break - even after they'd actually been delivered - from December 27th till last night Jan. 2nd. This is not normal for the books people, it's normally processed the next day after delivery, and paid the day after that.

But all mine just went through in the late hours of last night and early hours this morning. There was a 5 day run where no UPS was running (Dec. 29th-Jan. 1st) so I'd bet that's why yours was held up. I'd expect you'll see them pop up again now at the delivery facility soon. UPS must have given their drivers, finally, some time off after being slammed at Xmas - so they (the buyback folks) probably just got a massive shipment of books at the check-in facility yesterday they've been working through like devils into the wee hours to catch up processing.

Mine is exactly the same. I shipped my books on Dec. 17th from Huntsville, AL and they departed Cincinnati OH on the 21st and that is all. No more updated tracking info, I've been so worried!

I purchased an MP3 player from Amazon and I think the package was lost in a tornado. Then the player arrived months later in the mail and water was dripping out of the box!
The weather has been really bad. You can't blame the post man.

Unfortunately, UPS has also left packages sitting in a warehouse somewhere for days.
They have no explanation as to why this might have happened-they simply say that someone 'dropped the ball.'

I feel your pain. I sold a book to someone in Maryland and the delivery confirmation number showed that the box was stuck in a Jersey City, NJ sorting facility. I googled that place and found tons of complaints against it. I filed a complaint but since i didn't insure the package, I assume it's gone into the USPS Bermuda Triangle! :(

Nava Viniar says:
Does anyone have a phone number for this sorting facility?
It seems my pkg. left FL on its way to AL and is now in Ohio -
USPS needs to learn where the states are located!

When I did my trade-in, Amazon gave a choice of USPS or UPS. I sent package out UPS Dec 30, book has arrived to Amazon and I have credit for trade in in my account.
Seems UPS can get it there faster.

I think something fishy is going on in Cincinnati OH. I sent a package back in August and last tracking place was there. I received the box top back a month later stating my package was seperated from the contents. Yeah right someone in Cincinnati cut the top off my box. The contents were never found. Hopefully this is not the same for you.
