Can anyone help me understand what's going on here? I selected a used book for less than $5, used the 'one click to buy' function, then received the invoice/statement showing a charge of $45 for handling and shipping. I don't get it. What did I do wrong?
Thanks,
Alison

Since you're not based in the US - I'd turn off one click settings if I were you. That will allow you to see the shipping and handling charges that you're about to be charged for whatever seller you selected. I'm guessing you picked a marketplace seller (as opposed to Amazon directly) and did you select international expedited shipping? It would be just about that much from here to there for a book weighing over one pound, believe it or not. We recently (mid-January) had US Postal Service rate increases across the board, and it made it very expensive to ship things internationally.

If you don't use one click, you can view different shipping speed options before checking out - But you'd still be paying about $24 in shipping for a textbook over 1 pound. About $17 for books under one pound. You can still use the contact seller button by the item under Your Orders to try to cancel the order if you like, if it hasn't been shipped yet.

Thank you so much, Delos. Now I know what to do. 20/20 hindsight!! Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.

No problem. I am, too, in mourning that it costs me so much to send books to overseas friends now. It used to be affordable. If it's over one pound, now, I pretty much can't. :(
