Amazon claimed ISBN numbers didn't match

I'm very annoyed with amazon right now. I traded in a textbook that I purchased from amazon. I initiated the trade-in process from the link from the exact book. I receive a notification that my trade in was cancelled because the condition was not as described because the ISBN numbers don't match. It's the exact textbook. Online chat said the person who examined the book wrote up that the book has different ISBN numbers and I should try sending it back to them. I will be LIVID if amazon mixed up books and sends me back a completely different book. Has anyone else had this issue before?

There can be different versions of what otherwise seem like identical books.

Even if a MINOR change is made to a book, it will typically get a new ISBN number.

If I'm looking for a specific revision of a book, and I got shipped a different one, I would be "livid".

I had this issue, bought the book from Amazon then tried to trade it in a month later, been returned to me twice saying the ISBN didn't match, if it doesn't then I want my original purchase price refunded for them sending me the wrong book!

I CALLED Amazon and spoke with a rep and asked WHY my nook was rejected for WRONG ISBN #. They informed me that the only thing they could do was contact the 3rd party vendor and give them the complaint and for me to RESEND the book. They said I was NOT able to contact the 3rd party vendor myself. I asked to speak to a manager and was told the same story. After the call, I received an email asking if my reason for calling had been taken care of or NOT. I responded to the survey link and noticed at the end of it was a button to click to request someone to call me "NOW" or "IN 5 MINS". I clicked the in 5 mins button and low and behold, in exactly 5 minutes mt phone rang and it was an Amazon "customer service specialist", named Maurice (from 206-922-0865). He heard my complaint and immediately told me he was applying the $78.50 credit to my account in the form of a promotional certificate. He explained it would only show up when I was ready to checkout. It can ONLY be used to purchase items from AMAZON and NOT third party vendors, but that will be ok with me. He told me to KEEP the book and do whatever I wanted to with it, so I am selling it to ANOTHER site that buys books!! CALL NOT give up. When you get the email, as I did, click the option to have saomeone call YOU back...Good Luck!!
