I wanted to buy this book for my 7 yr old Grandson. Is this a good book with content for that age?

S. Underwood says:
I would say no, not because there is objectionable content, just of interest for older readers. I'd say grades 4-6. This book is historical fiction, some, but not a lot of baseball action. Themes include racism of the 1950's, mother dating after the death of father, acceptance of the death of the father. There is a general feeling of violence at the end of the book, in which one of the main characters is in danger of being killed (being chased by the story's main "bad guy" with a weapon.) Unless you have a very sophisticated, mature 7 yo reaer, I would not suggest this book.

Thank you for your input. Since it was going to be a Christmas present I had decided to pass on this particular book. I actually purchased it and broght it home and read part of it before I decided to return the book,
