What emotions does Peeta stir in Katniss? Though she is stiff and formal with him, what are her true feelings? How did the events in the first Games affect their relationship?

Loyalty. Protectiveness. Thankfulness and love.

I think that maybe she's a little resentful at the same time as being grateful for his giving her bread when her family needed it so badly...especially when his mother obviously despised Katniss for some reason. It took her a while to learn to trust him.

Juliette says:
I think when she first meets him, she is drawn to him although she knows she cant be. She is confused and suspicious beacause she isnt sure of his motives. After the games katniss knows peeta was truthful, and this also confuses her, beacause gale is all she has ever known. Katniss also feels love and gratitude as well

I think at first it was to protect. She knew that if he won he would take care of her family.

Loyalty, Protectiveness, Thankfulness, and love say it all! Also, while in the arena, Katniss allows herself to love and fully appreciate Peeta, but when the Games are over, she feels confused between what she felt for Peeta, and her strong connection to Gale. She forbids herself to attach too much to either of them because deep down she know she has to remain alone and can never form a family and have children.

Jean says:
He makes her feel protected, which is why she pushes him away. She's not used to being protected. She is used to being the to be the one who does the protecting.

Katniss has so many conflicting feelings about Peeta. At first there is the whole backstory of how he helped her when she needed it most. She feels like she owes him for that act of kindness. She feels guilty for never saying thank you and then they are thrown together in the worst of circumstances. The whole affair is an emotional rollercoaster for her. The whole star crossed lovers story adds to her confusion as she is unaware that Peeta is truly in love with her until the very end. There is also the Gale factor, that adds to her confusion and guilt.

Peeta stirs feelings of guilt, attraction, confusion, friendship, gratitude, security, and love in Katniss. The events in the games forms a bond between them, that will stay with them no matter what happens. Even though they have a falling out at the end of book one, there is a connection between them that will keep them in eachother's lives.

Katniss doesn't like to owe anyone, and she feels like she owes Peeta after he fed her the bread. He kept her alive when no one else could. She isn't good at depending on anyone. Then I think in the games, she protects Peeta because he is the only one outside of herself that she can protect. I also think that Katniss has closed herself off from love, so she can't believe that Peeta loves her, even when she realizes that it is no longer just part of the games. Deep down she does love him, but it is something she won't let herself feel.

I think that she was confused about her feelings. She feels that she owes him for giving her bread. In the first game she used the option of two victors from the same district to go home. She played to the audience or mainly Haymitch to get the things she needed but then she did start to have feelings for him. She was even confused throughout the whole second book. But i believe that when they were in the arena in the second book she started to try to figure out her feels for him. She even was trying to get him back to his family. Without the first Game she would have never noticed him and he probably wouldn't have said that he loved her. Without the first game Katniss would never have become the face of the rebellion and her sister would have been sent in and most likely died.
But if i was her i would have had feelings for him from the beginning. He is so much better than Gale. Especially in the third book. I grew to love Peeta. His love and admiration for Katniss. The way he can articulate himself and was open about how he loved her from the moment he gave her the bread.

If Katniss doesn't know her true feelings, I couldn't possibly know either. In fact, I kind of dislike Katniss in the 1st part of Book 2. One minute she thinks she loves Gale, the next minutes she thinks she loves Peeta. Katniss is better dealing with survival in the Games than dealing with her personal relationship.

well in catching fire we can see that she and Peeta have grown a bond and that they comfortable in each others company so much to the extent that they can sleep in the same bed but it is purely platonic. Nothing SEXUAL at all.
