I noticed that The Third Gate by Lincoln Child has 35 reviews but the release date isn't until June 12. How could so many people already review it? Was it sold for a while and then pulled or what happened?

Looks like those are all Vine reviewers - Amazon's program where product manufacturers are able to provide their products for free for review by Amazon's selectively sampled group. Something like that...

Thanks for the answer. I didn't know such a thing even existed

I've never really paid attention to how it's set up, since I don't review, but here's their program info.
[I'd also never seen a 'pre-launch' with that many reviews!]

Be careful about reviews of copies proivided for free. People who purchase a book usually have a different level of focused interest than someone who gets the book for free. I think the vine reviewers are a little better selected than a random group, but still I would interpret those reviews with care.

Susan Solin says:
ARC's (advanced reader copies) have been provided to bookstores and readers for years. Several of the reviews are probably the result of these advanced reader copies. Publishers and authors like to get several copies of books out ahead of a release to create interest....
