Brandon Sanderson has never written a bad book.

I finished reading a couple of months ago the first book of Brandon Sanderson's "Mistborn" trilogy - Mistborn: The Final Empire (Book No. 1) (pretty good one: 4 stars in my book). I'm currently into British author Robert Holdstock's mytho-magical Celtika (Merlin Codex).

Eragon is good for the first book, and then, not.

I was thinking, and although it has become fashionable to deride the ERAGON series, I read the first several books and thought they were quite well done. They would appear to speak right to the YA age that the OP is concerned with.

Go here:

Examine titles and then return to amazon and buy. Lots of good books there.

Repeat amazon maneuver.

This is more along the lines of "tall tales" than fantasy, but have you looked at MISS MINERVA AND WILLIAM GREEN HILL by Frances Boyd Coulton?

JZS says:
If these will work will depend on the age/maturity of the boys. True young adult, I would strongly recommend "Miss Peregrine's Home for Wayward Children", an extremely well written odd little gem but too atmospheric and tense for very young kids. Also, "The Complete Enchanter" by L. Sprague de Camp and "The Last Unicorn" by Peter S. Beagle. It has probably been almost 20 years since I read the latter two so a quick review for appropriateness would be in order. My memory isn't what it used to be. Tween boys would probably enjoy Anne Mccaffery's Dragon Riders of Pern series. And there are a lot of them to last a while. If they are little boys (say under 10), not young adults the classics are always good- Dr. Doolittle, Robert Louis Stevenson, Peter Pan.

You dug up an old thread just to spam your book? Amazon doesn't like when you do that. You need to post in the Meet Our Author's forum.

"If this discussion board is not for recommending a book, then maybe someone needs to remove the "add your own message to the discussion" reply box."

It's so tempting to promote that you can't help yourself? Is that what you are saying? Should we also lock up the knives in your kitchen drawer so you don't cut off your head accidentally? And take away all your belts? Better that your pants fall down than you impulsively hang yourself, right?!

It's obvious you have a vested interest in this book. Either you're Aaron or Aaron's editor or Aaron's college roommate or why don't you just tell us, "Bewitched33"?

P.S. My colleagues were civil to you. If you want to see insulting, please reply back to this post with anything other than an honest response to the above.

That's a great one. Giving it a cursory look, you'd never know it was one of the biggest epic fantasy stories ever written. I just reread it a few weeks ago, and it's a real treat. The artwork is Disney-caliber as well.

You should be reading this whole thread. That sock thing looks good on you too. Reported.

Not really helping the situation by (again) repeating yourself and belaboring the issue.

You could have simply asked "why?"

Terry explained things pretty well. No need to go after her either. If we take you at your word and you are not a shill, you will make one of the very few times our shill-radar has failed. I and others will apologize for that failure but we won't apologize for the suspicion.

All you needed to do was ask why we reacted as we did to your posting(s.)

That's it for me. Not interested in explaining it further or trying to ameliorate your reactions to it.

Love that ignore button!

Thanks for replying, Bewitched. I do get that this seems like an old boys club if you come in and immediately start plugging a book (twice), especially when you have only one review on Amazon. You seem reasonable so I'm sure you can understand how your post looks eerily similar to the other hundreds of shill posts we get here. If you stay long enough to read some threads, you'll see how shill posts are insulting to US.

I will take you at your word that the second post was a mistake and you have no affiliation with the author of this book.

BTW, none of us are professional reviewers on Amazon because no one is paid for their reviews. Top Reviewer status on Amazon means you are in the top 10,000 reviewers. So it's not an especially exclusive club and anyone can post in this forum, top reviewer or not.

There's no cause for this kind of insulting post, Bewitched. Ursiform was polite but to the point. You cannot imagine how many shill posts we get here. It's annoying because this forum is not for that purpose. Amazon prohibits promotion of books by authors or their "affiliates" on this forum. There is another forum for that.

One post about this book would have been OK, maybe, but 2 in a row? And then you insult us? Seriously, your last post has likely done more harm to that book and its author that 20 terrible reviews. Most of us will remember very well that you were rude and insulting to Ursiform and will associate that with the book Colorblind.

It is true that you bought it. But you've never reviewed another book. Why should we believe you know a good book when you read one? And how did you find this forum?

We get a lot of shills here. There is an old saying: If it looks like a duck, and walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck ...
