Peter says:
Eastern music often utilizes quarter tones, which most Western instruments, and especially fretted instruments cannot achieve. The vocal patterns follow suit.
Therefore, such music often sounds discordant or off key, when musically/mathematically, it is actually more precise. Part of what we find harmonious is that which we are accustomed to....much like some people love Country but hate Metal (or vice versa)...and we arent generally accustomed to quarter tones.

Band-Aid Brand Princesses, 20 Count (Pack of 4)

P.S. Next time take a taxi. You will need fewer band-aids if you get "ran" over.

Thanks for that explanation Peter, I had no idea about quarter tones.

I'm not sure about that. Have you ever cruised Old Towne Pasadena on a weekend? Not nearly as tough a place as (East) St. Louis, mostly just a young hip place. The streets are packed and nearly at a stand still. To combat the rap and hip hop we were having blasted at us we had on Vivaldi's four seasons. We were blissing out but still got some odd stares. I think they just figure we were a bunch of old, out of it folks and turned their obomination of so called music up even louder.

Obomination? That a smack at the prez?

I went with the Toccata because it is intended to be loud, has great base, and is very primal. Very unlike the Four Seasons!

By the way, what is now Old Towne used to be an area you avoided during the day, much less at night. Not the worst place in region, but not a good place to be.

Bach's organ works are glorious and YES loud.

Old Towne done been gentrified. The shop prices are astronomical which is why we never bother to get out of the car.....well the high prices and that there's no #$(!*# parking. Pasadena has the weirdest neighborhoods. One street is 'safe', the next one over is gang land, the streets closest to the mountains or in S. Pasadena are for millionaires. Very confusing.

Some great architecture, though!

(I was born in Pasadena.)

Definitely! I'm sure you've been to the Gamble House! Some friends of mine bought an arts and crafts fixer upper a few years ago and love it.

Oh yes. I've also been in the Blacker House a couple of times. It's even more spectacular!

No problem at all. It's not something most people are exposed to in the U.S.
