The durability of the console, the controller and of course the games....boy were the games great. Say what you will about graphics, open world enviroments and online multiplayer, nothing beats games like Castlevania, the Legend of Zelda, Kid Icarus, Metroid, and the list goes on. I didn't even mind the cartridges and having to blow in them when they weren't working properly...good times. Forget about the Move and Kinect, we had the Power Pad, The Power Glove and of course the Light Gun.

Now stick that in your pipe and smoke it youngins'

My favorite all time console, followed closely by the Super NES.

I loved my NES, but I did and always will think the SNES far outshone it.

What's crazy is that I've owned every system that's ever came out including Fairchild and Odyssey, but never owned an NES. When it came out, I was more into the Atari ST and Commodore Amiga and skipped it. Then came Genesis and SNES. I've played a ton of NES games, but never owned it.

I'm sorry, but reliability and durability were not words that Nintendo understood at the time. The games were fantastic. Probably one in the top 2 or 3 gaming libraries ever. But the console itself needed some work. Nintendo rectified all that with the Super NES. 'Cuz it was super, yo.

I'd agree that it's the SNES. A Link to the Past and Super Mario World alone are still two of the best games ever made. Not taking away from the NES though. NES > PS3 & 360.

Punk/Guest don't get me wrong, I loved my SNES, but no system will ever come between me and my NES. If it was legal I would marry it and have a bunch of gits. I would even take it's last name, Michael John System.

Hard to argue with that, MJM. Although my personal #1 would be the SNES, the NES was, to me as a gamer, the most important console I've ever owned, and the list of awesome games for it was indeed vast and varied. So many great memories associated with the NES. Aside from the classics that are normally mentioned, there are unsung gems such as Renegade, Wizards & Warriors, Trojan, Bases Loaded, Ice Hockey, Life Force, Ice Climber, Bubble Bobble, RC Pro Am, Dragon Warrior (my first RPG!), Stinger, and so many others.

NES sucked...it was unreliable...don't you guys remember having to buy cleaning kits and blowing on cartridges for 3 hours and then they still wouldn't work? Most of the games weren't that good either...they had crap music, impossible sections of games you couldn't beat or they were too easy. You guys are high

While I wouldn't called it the best system, it is one of the best & the fact the the video game industry wouldn't exist (at least not as we know it) had the NES not become a hit in the late 1980s. Remember the video game crash of 1984 nearly destroyed the business & the NES bought it back to life.

My brother you're making my mouth water, those were all great titles. Did you know that Ikari Warriors is on the PS3 under the minis section? I found it a couple of days ago while I was browsing the store. I'm afraid to play it, I think it may tarnish the memories I have of it.
