There was one massive difference between the two. No one expected the Desmond ending to not be crappy.

Assassin's Creed always had WTF endings.

Mass Effect is supposed to have awesome endings.

Wouldn't it be funny if that became the norm? Angry mobs going from company doorstep to doorstep demanding ending changes, these really are the end of days aren't they?

GarionOrb says:
Angry mobs on the internet are already becoming the norm. Hell, they're even petitioning to have their home state secede the U.S...

Even if it was true, there will be no impact whatsoever. We're talking about 2 very different games here ... No one has ever made public announcements or promises that AC3 will have 'epic multiple endings where all your previous choices matters'.

****************ENDING SPOILERS***************************
The Assassin's Creed III ending makes perfect sense thematically. Desmond is asked to choose between slavery and extinction for the human race and he chooses slavery. It's a tough choice not only because it's a lose/lose, but because it's also the same choices (in the extreme) that the Assassins and Templars make. Desmond makes the Templar choice in this case, because he can't quite get behind "Live Free or Die" in this case.

I think it's a good ending, if not exactly well done. It's thematically and narratively sound and it doesn't change the natural flow of the game. It's a much better fit than Mass Effect 3's original ending. I don't think there will be a fan outcry, because: 1. People weren't upset that the ME3 ending was "sad" and 2. This isn't the player's story, it's Desmond's. We don't make choices for Desmond like we do for Shepard.

OP says:
Possible 3. It's possible that there's more emotional attachment to the assassins in the Animus than there is for the real protagonist of the series.

Yeah, no one liked Desmond anyway. I was just trying to be nice to the poor guy :(

I don't think he made the templar choice. He freed her because he believed Assassins could stop her. A templar would've chosen the new world so they could build it how they wanted to.

The ending pretty much blew but I'm okay with it.
