I know! I'm trying to finish Dead Eye: The Skinwalker Conspiracies so I can move on to The Dark Monk: A Hangman's Daughter Tale (US Edition)

It's tough though, because I cant WILL myself to the end of Dead Eye. I read the first one fast and it was a good book, but this second one (Skinwalker Conspiracy) is pretty slow. They're both about the same length but I'm just stumbling through it.

and FTR, someone should start a petition for a Cloud of Sparrows/Autumn Bridge movie!

I could totally see him as Uncle! Such good books - I need to give them a re-read soon.

Dangit, I hate it when I want to re-read a book but I'm in the middle of a different one...

Indeed, my dear. I have. I actually own the first print/edition of Cloud of Sparrows. I always thought both of those (epic!) books would make great movies!

They read like something Quinten Tarentino would put together. I always pictured Ken Wantanabe to play the hallucinating, war-torn Uncle.

It is vaguley fantasy-esque, but it deals with a fairly realistic interpretation of feudal Japan. The author, Lian Hearn, has been pretty strongly praised by Japanese cultural institutions for her attention to detail and historicity.

Beyond that, they're just beautifully written and full of lush drama.

oh, is that one of those "tales of the Otori" books? It's hard for me to get into a japanese fantasy novel of sorts. The Japanese books I've read deal with a real Japan and real time period, but I suppose I could give it a shot ;) Thanks!

You definitely need to read Across the Nightingale Floor if you liked Musashi and Cloud of Sparrows.

Batman: No Man's Land
The Hangman's Daughter

I read a few Koontz books and they were OK. And yeah, sometimes King can just ramble - tell me why Tommyknockers is 600 pages?

Hobbit and LOTR Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
This Perfect Day by Ira Levin
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens
The Once and Future King by T.H. White
Raise High the Roofbeams, Carpenter by J.D. Salinger
The Blandings Castle series by P.G. Wodehouse
Lost Horizon by James Hilton

The first ten to come to mind, in no particular order.

Just like every author, Koontz has some good books and some not-so-good books. Overall I like Koontz just fine.

Family Guy sucks.

J. says:
Watchers
The Jungle Book
It
The Stand
Desperation
Dune
Outbreak
Harry Potter
The Sword of Shannara
The Sword of Truth

The Hobbit/LotR and Slaughterhouse-Five didn't make the cut, this time.

So it goes.

These books may not be considered the greatest works of fiction known to man, but they are what got me to keep reading.

I can't stand Family Guy, so I haven't seen it. My ex girlfriend liked Koontz and bought me several of his books for my bday. I didn't like the first one but I read all of them anyways. After I broke up with her I took them off my self, they aren't worthy of being on my shelf. I ended up donating them to my local library.

Remember that Family Guy scene where they ran over a guy, stopped because they thought it was Stephen King, when Brian realized it was Dean Koontz they just drove off (or backed over him and ran over him again...can't remember)?

Dean Koontz sucks.

My favorite novel having any vampires in it is Salems Lot. Stephen King at his best, in my opinion.

I didn't care for the Stand personally, but I read through Bag of Bones and there were some spots where he seemed to go on and on, but I couldn't really think of any place where he could trim the fat without losing something vital in that one.

Dean Kootz? I cringe at the name.

A lot of people hate Stephen King. The criticism I always hear is that he just rambles on and on about characters. I read a lot and sometimes I can't even stomach how long he goes on.

Dracula
Forever war
The Road
Angels and Demons
The Divine Comedy
Things Fall apart
Halo Fall of Reach
Hatchet Series(I'll never forget those)
The Picture of Dorian Gray
The Bourne Ultimatium

And lots more.

I judge the book by its cover. Picked it up cause I thought the cover look cool and couldn't stop reading until I finished it, so picked up the rest of the series. Great ending.

Tales of the Otori is great. I have the prequel one, and I haven't read it...I need to do that.
