full review available at IGN .... this is the "Verdict" portion ....

LEGO City Undercover is the best iteration of a very familiar experience, which is as reassuring or problematic as that might seem. The sheer scope of the overworld is impressive, as is the way Traveller's Tales layered in its wide range of collectible goodies, which ensures hours upon hours of activity after the campaign ends, which should take the average player about 10 hours, accounting for some collectible fetching. Undercover's story is an incredibly entertaining homage to countless movies and television shows, and manages to feature a very strong cast of characters - no small feat considering the game has no major license associated with it. Of course, rampant loading times, no co-op and a variety of other problems (loading times, routine gameplay) hold Undercover back from truly taking the next step for the larger LEGO franchise.

Verdict : 8 - Great

+Huge open world
+Great characters, sense of humor
+Tons of collectibles
- Frequent and lengthy load times
- Fairly generic gameplay

I'm pretty sure I could give a starving man a bowl of spiders to eat and he would rate the spiders an 8/10.

I've heard there are some delicious spiders out there.

Edit: I might try the 3DS one. But unlike on the WiiU, there are a lot of 3DS games I want first.

was really surprised that co-op is unavailable in this game ... normally, my son & I play these together - sadly, not this time ... you'd think with the gamepad, it would be even easier to offer co-op .... :-( disappointed about that .

The no co-op makes me sad.

Didn't even know this was coming out already. I suppose it's better than nothing on the Wii U.

It's an Exclusive Wii U game? Thought it was for everything.

currently, a Wii U exclusive ... set to launch Monday ... a different version will be available on the 3DS in April - a prequel to the U game ...

I watched the video review - the game looks impressive for sure, but the lack of co-op is a huge loss ... what were they thinking ? & for families, was a great franchise to have kids playing together ... those load times look like a hurry up & wait event.

Nope, those dummies decided to actually put the gamepad into the game.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 14, 2013 8:36:07 AM PDT
Yup. It looks like Nintendo is publishing it. Also, the 3DS version has a subtitle...not sure it's the same game as the Wii U version.

76 on Metacritic currently, Edge hated it.

I figured it would be a favorable review because:

Mayo didn't post it.

Foxhound sniveled about it.

Does it really have a "huge" open world?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 14, 2013 8:38:37 AM PDT
10 hours doesn't sound like a "huge" open world to me. But I haven't played it so that's just my speculation.

...'like a GTA game'...

...'10 hours long'....

Wait what?

Posted on Mar 14, 2013 8:38:44 AM PDT
Hmmm... I will have to give it a try some time in the future. I Didn't know it was Wii U only, means the gamepad could have an interesting use!

says it's the biggest yet ... with settings from major cities - San Fran, New York etc .... sounds like they did well with the vehicles & driving ...

the wii u game & 3ds ones are entirely different games ... one is set before the other ...

The Skyrim campaign took less than 10 hours.

Campaigns aren't everything in open world games buddy.

Eurogamer gave it a 90. Game Informer a 85. Pretty much what I expected, a good game, but nothing ground breaking. Not sure if it is worth full price. I am glad to see the game has a funny/entertaining story, but the loading is crap.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 14, 2013 8:42:45 AM PDT
I somehow doubt this has the overall girth of Skyrim.
