Can anyone recommend a good site/guide that can teach the basics of this game?

That's the same way I felt about it. I'll give it another shot at some point, as people seem to rave about it, but I couldn't figure it out for the life of me.

Oh, so it's Minecraft?

I was the same way when I started. Best advise would be to build a hammer and a workplace and put them in a building. Also, make more than one building or the guy walking around will keep opening the door at night and letting nasties in. This game gets highly addictive as you will see if you can get past the learning curve at the beginning. Have fun.

Last I checked it was a bit more intricate (and fun) than Minecraft. You will pretty much need a site to craft everything. I imagine googling something like Terraria wiki would suffice.

you could always google for a wiki or check out gamefaqs though.

and i just spent ten seconds on google and found this:

http://wiki.terrariaonline.com/Terraria_Wiki

maybe it will help

googled it to try and find out what the hell the game is about and this was the second result.

and according to the wiki they discontinued development for the game in Feb, and there are no mods for it. the former i wouldn't really have much of a problem with, but the latter is a deal breaker. a game like that NEEDS mods. guess i won't be getting it.
