Seen so many many old school rare games that would still go for the price of brand new games if not more. I recently wanted to get the Tales of Vesparia Special Edition which is more recent, but people are trying to sell for $100+. The highest I've seen someone trying to sell it for $500. That's nuts.

If you're a collector, yes, they are
If you're a gamer, no they're not.

$100...pffft.

At Magfest there is a guy who will sell you a mint copy of Dragon Warrior in the box with all of the inserts for $1,500.

Panzer Dragoon Saga surely is.

While 3D Saturn games haven't aged as well as its 2D games, it's still a once in a lifetime game, which will probably never see an HD remaster since Sega lost the source code around the time they were developing Sonic the Hedgehog 2006.

I thought Donkey Kong Country 2 was really good, I don't know about anybody else.

You know, I've never been a huge DKC fan but man, the second game had some amazing music. I really love hearing some remixes from the DKC2 score.

No, there aren't.
Wanna bet?

That's a terrible chain of events. Losing the source code and developing Sonic '06. Perish the thought.

If we are talking about the company:

Older Rare games: yes
Newer Rare games: Avoid like the plague

Not really. I mean, some of the games that sell for a healthy amount (such as System Shock 2, or at the most extreme Earthbound) are definitely worth something, but many games are not.

I mean, the most expensive game is a NES era track simulator. TWhy on Earth would someone want to spend the amount of money the people who were selling it were asking? Seems insane to me.

It depends very heavily on the game. The most expensive game I own (that's been opened) is Panzer Dragoon Saga, but I also bought it at launch. Now it's worth considerably more, but I'd still be willing to buy it at the current price.

To the people paying the price to own that piece of memorabilia, yes. Not sure of the answer for you though. It's a personal decision, though I would recommend if you're thinking about it to consider if this is something you want ot get into collecting and the reasons why.

Depends. They aren't really a smart investment if that's your idea. However the rarest games in my collection are also some of the best I own and in that case yeah they're worth it. I buy to play though, games only stay wrapped until I play them. However they stay in near mint shape once they come home so if I do have to sell one day they'll retain much of their value. Hopefully.

Yeah I had never played Suikdoden 2 just the first one back in the day. I went and forked over the $80 for it and I thoroughly enjoyed the game, beat it in like 60 hours in a week. But yeah if you can't afford these games and don't have access to modded PS1 (I do now) then you probably aren't missing too much with all the other games out there you can get for real cheap.

Luckily I had the chance to play Panzer Dragoon Saga when I was younger, best friend let me borrow his Saturn and that game. Good friend, great game.

You've obviously never played Viva Pinata then. Oooh boy, is that a great game! Seriously. That game ruined my life for a while. All I could think about was breeding Whirlms.

Not interested in any Rare game made after 2002.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 8, 2012 7:05:37 PM PST
Viva Piñata and Kameo were really good though.

The fact that nobody bought those games is why Rare is currently stuck making Kinect Sports Season Twelve, or whatever it is.

Hey says:
Then you're really missing out. Viva Pinata is an absolutely incredible game. It's probably my favorite game they ever made.
