http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/18/nintendo-id-requires-credit-card-verification-for-minors/

Parents looking to create additional Nintendo ID accounts for their children are required to pay a one-time $0.50 fee via credit card to provide consent for minors to access Nintendo Network.

Nintendo's confirmation email notes that Wii U owners can use a "Parental Control PIN" to create additional Nintendo Network IDs without any added charges. Credit card information used for the transaction doesn't appear to be stored on the system.

I think this is kind of crappy of them to do...

Is this a pedo protection surcharge? If so, great deal.

I wish they charged kids to play COD and other online shooters online. Most, not all, of them make playing online a lesson in tolerance.

Well, I think it is more about keeping kids from registering multiple profiles or kids from going online without their parents knowing. As your link, you can use a PIN to create accounts at no charge.

Yea I see that but I think it is a little crappy to actually charge instead of just holding funds for a day or so then releasing them back ya know?

That's pretty unfair to charge Keller an extra fee just to take it out of the box.

I support anything that is a hurdle for teenagers getting online.

I read something that it had to do with some online kid act or something. No clue if that's true or not though.

They aren't just annoying in what they say but how they play. Have you ever been playing capture the flag and there is that one guy [who I'm sure everyone has muted after the N word and every possible slur for gay there is] who only runs around killing people regardless of how little it helps towards the actual mission goals.

Also you know what's better than muting someone? Not having to use that feature in the first place.

On Xbox I know I c-c-c-c-can go "review" players and assign them a thumbs up/down based on whether or not i want to play with them again.

I've met plenty of adults who don't play the objective.

The fact that you have to spend part of your gaming experience identifying and muting racism, sexism and whatnot is the problem. Sure, I can go mute them, or they can have parents not buying them M rated games in the first place. I know Internet shows people at their worst, but gamers should have a community that is decent enough to appreciate playing against each other.

Is the problem here really that we have to spend the extra 20 seconds or so muting people or the fact that this generation of gaming has produced oversensitive gamers?

So a 12 year old calls me "gay" on Halo. I'm not going to wrestle with my panties to get the bunch out. I'm going to ignore it and continue having fun.

No the problem isn't the having to mute people. The benifit is playing with other mature people who you'd actually WANT to talk to. Especially true for team based games where communication can be paramount to the experience.

Why are kids 3 years older than you calling you names on Halo? Secondly, why are you even playing Halo? The ESRB gives the game a "Mature" rating.
