For the love of Vanille, don't give up because a boss is too "hard." Geeze... if anything that should be motivation to try again until you can beat it. I never thought any of the bosses in XIII felt cheap.

This has been sitting in my backlog for a long time. I think it will stay there while I play The Last Story. Anyone here think I should reconsider?

I think FFXIII is better than the Last Story, but both are worth playing.

Why is this considered to be the worst FF game?

4 Heroes of Light is the worst FF game - by FAR!

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 19, 2013 6:16:26 PM PST
I think it's just the most divisive, not necessarily the "worst."

If your having a hard time getting into 13 because of the pacing of the battles/story, id advise just skipping to 13-2. It recaps everything from 13 so you arent lost, plus basically stands as its own story. The battle system kicks into full effect within a few battles, and there is a much larger ammount of side content with many branching paths rather than just the linear main story of 13. Personally I loved both games.

Based on your post, it sounds like you are mostly turned off by the story. If you dislike that aspect enough to consider quitting now, I don't think it makes a strong enough turn in the narrative to fix that for you. The battle system took a turn for me at around the 10 hour mark. Far before it "opens up", but really it took far longer than it should have to click. I really enjoyed the battle system.

I think he made up his mind already, OP was from last March =p

Good advice though.

That's where I quit. I couldn't beat Odin and eventually said screw it.

I too enjoyed the battle system enough to to beat it. It's not demon souls, but it is similarly rewarding to derive a solution that allows for a flawless victory rather then winging it or by luck. Barthandelus was just as challenging to me (and as rewarding once I figured what I was doing wrong) as a Flamelurker (was my hardest fight throughout the entire game, go figure).

And optional regions/monsters that opens up after beating the game which puts the endgame bosses to shame? Let me at em... eventually. FFXIII is a good game, just not a good rpg game.

Oh man, the game gets absolutely AWESOME at the 80 hour mark! Just keep plugging along man!

Yeah I put it on the shelf. I may start it up again later.

ZiggyIguana says:
That's a misconception, it really never "get's good". It becomes slightly more open on just one "map" of the entire game. The main problem with the game has always been how ridiculusly long it takes to develop. I mean, you're characters are still introducing themselves and getting their summons by the third disk.

Plus those summon battles are so tedious, every single on of them was a trial on patience.

From a battle gameplay perspective the game "opens up" around the chapter 6 or 7 mark when you unlock all abilities. I believe chapter 9 or 10 is where the game itself opens up and you aren't forced down a hallway.

That being said I enjoyed 13. I thought the story was great as well as the characters. Nevertheless, I loved 13-2. It took everything that was bad about 13 and improved it. I thought the story was just as great and the characters were decent. But I'm a long time FF fan and you can put me in the camp of those that overall enjoy the XIII series.

Thanx Subject7. I'll try it again and see if there's something i missed. I played last night but i didnt even tried to change them. From what i remember, i wasnt able to change the main weapon (the first row), only the 2nd one...

Odin and Sazh's eidolon are very hard to beat, but i realised that filling an enemy's gauge (especially eidolons) is sometimes easier when using non-attacking roles like "Saboteur" "Synergist" and "Sentinel". From the moment you passed the 200% gauge line with these commands, the yellow "Stagger" will pop-up and this is when you can switch to more agressive roles like "Rav/Rav" or "Com/Rav", easily producing over 500% more damage. After a minute or 2, the gauge will go back to the regular 100% and your attacks will do less damage , this is when you need to use non-attacking roles again until the gauge is full, then you can switch roles again and kick some @**! :)

Cyberphobia says:
For Odin, you're able to fill his gauge with healing as well. So the dual medic role works well, keep Hope as medic most of the fight. I'm trying to remember the fight, and I think Odin thrusts his sword in the air and charges up - don't attack at that point and get ready to heal. Like Doum said, often you have to use the character's roles to defeat eidolon's. Like Snow sitting in sentinel.

from what i remember, you get to a certain point in the game where Sentinel is key and switching to Dual Healers is pretty much a necessity for the bigger fights

loved the game, didn't really understand all the hate that it received - hope you try it out again soon

LOL!! So true! Yesterday i got in a long fight with Sazh and Vanille. i was in the living room and the volume on the TV was quite loud, so after a while, my girlfriend came out of our room and she was like "what the hell are you watching?" while moaning like a pornstar with a huge smile on her face..lol...
