Because having just one cock isn't enough.

its the second Amendment and people just feel its their right. It is silly, but Americans really put a lot of stock into what a bunch of people who have been dead fr 200 years had to say. I think its just the idea that the government is taking something away from them since everyone is obsessed with freedom to do whatever they want.

Don't have one, don't need one, not interested.

It's a fundamental right of humanity (and common sense) that you should be able to protect yourself, your family, and your property.

By the way, I don't own a gun and I never have. But I support the right of law abiding citizens to do so.

Just "a" gun?

only problem with that is you could argue that taking away assault rifles is protecting my family from having those guns used against us. Its kind of sad if these people think the only way to protect yourself is with a gun.

For me, I grew up with them and they've always been a part of my life. I use them for personal defence and for recreation. Going out shooting for me is akin to going 4-wheeling, whitewater rafting, riding quads, working on cars, or playing video games. It's a hobby that I enjoy, as well as a means to defend myself, my family, and my home. The whole being a right thing helps too, but that only comes to mind when defending my ownership.

I sense big things for this thread.

And what other way would you have someone protect themselves against someone who meant to do them harm? Especially if the attacker is bigger/stronger? It's not sad that we think it is the only way to protect ourselves, the sad thing is that we need to protect ourselves at all. But since we do, a means to do so is necessary.

Edit: I am interested in the answer. My wife won't go running without carrying because she has no other means to protect herself. She isn't strong enough to fend off a strong male attacker.

Probably because gun ownership has been a part of the culture since our country's inception.

I have one of those original paint gun pistols under my bed somewhere. It is probably worth some money for collectors.

"the sad thing is that we need to protect ourselves at all"
That's just reality. You might as well lament the fact that we're not all immortal.

Because target shooting is a very fun hobby and I want to be able to defend myself and my family should the need arise.

"You don't need a gun to protect your family."

I guess I'll just bring a knife to a gunfight then? No. I'm bringing a Roadblocker.

"Duke it out like us Irish do."

That's a nice fantasy you have there. Won't work in America.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 4:28:12 PM PST
That would be nice, if this was Ireland, but it is not. And sadly a lot of perpetrators have guns.

Good point, we can just ban guns and than all the weapons in our country would just go away. Especially the ones in the hands of the violent and criminal, I hear they are an honest bunch.
