Sony sold over 525,000 PlayStation 3s and 160,000 PS Vitas in North America during the week of Black Friday (Nov. 18-24), it has announced.

PlayStation 3 Black Friday bundle sales increased 15 percent, and total PS3 sales including hardware, software, and peripherals grew 9 percent compared to last year.

"We're very pleased with the Black Friday sales results, especially the incredible reception for the PS3 and PS Vita bundles. The demand was very strong which quickly depleted our inventory across retailers nationwide," said Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America. "The PlayStation brand generated significant revenue and year-over-year growth at retail because of our focus on what gamers love most in combining amazing hardware with great games and digital entertainment."

Additionally, Sony announced that sales of PlayStation Plus subscriptions have increased 295 percent compared to last year's Black Friday, and satisfaction rates are above 95 percent since it introduced the Instant Game Collection earlier this year.

Wow, so all Sony had to do to push Vita's was give people a value.

Given the Vita Plus thing, I imagine they sold a lot of Vitas as a result of that. Between that and Ama's $180 bundle I could not pass it up.

Those numbers differ greatly from the ones VGC has already up....

If Sony could do a major price drop (not just a sale) after the holidays in time for everyone to be spending their gift cards they might have something.

Great numbers. Sony should be happy. As a gamer I love Sony and their hardware, it is nice to see them doing well. :)

If my math is correct:

Nintendo: 1,250,000
Microsoft: 750,000
Sony: 685,000

Total: 2.69 million total, very good for all three! Excellent numbers for a 'declining' market.

A sale and the fact that I had about $100 in gift cards/coupons to use didn't hurt.

Sony numbers are North America.

MS released US numbers only, as well as Nintendo. VGChartz shows 838,643 for North America (US, Canada,..) for the 360 and 1.31 M for Nintendo (all systems).

Nintendo 1.31m NA
MS 840k NA
Sony 685k NA

People are buyin'.

I think it's funny to read mayo and Keller's comments about how great it is that people are buying video games in a soft economy and that all three major companies are doing well in juxtaposition to your comment. It's just amusing.

Love how Sony has to include Vita numbers to compete with Microsoft.

Such a slimey company.

So once again Nintendo wins

I see your point, but my decision was between the Vita or a PS3. Either way I was going to buy a sony product, I just chose the handheld version. I could be alone in that.

The ps3 has the best selection of quality games, and that's what I look for in a system. That's I hate vita, don't own a 3ds, and got rid of my Xbox.

Twenty years, if I recall correctly.

8 million lead, down to just over 1.5.. think about it.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 29, 2012 12:42:06 PM PST
and yet every year (except 2011 by a few thousand) the PS3 has out sold the Xbox

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 29, 2012 12:42:59 PM PST
You could also say that Nintendo is still in first. But who really cares about numbers. As long as people are buying it is really good. Given the other two systems are at the end of their lifecycles.

M. says:
The 360 has a larger library of critically acclaimed games so technically you are wrong.

Yeah, because sales figures really makes a company slimy.
