Reality TV redeemed!

For those not in the know, it's a show about a shop that sells and buys weird stuff, like baby coffins and walrus penis bones. It's on Netflix and it's awesome.

I kinda dig the show but I question the "reality" of it, just like every other show in the genre.

Anybody else more interested in the fact that walruses have bones in their penises?

I've been on the internet, I've seen everything.

You think it's staged?

At least parts of it, just like Pawn Stars is. Since the same guy made both Pawn Stars and Oddities, it'd only follow that there would be some staging involved.

The haggling is my favorite part, aside from the oddities themselves. Comic Book Men is another one I like. I could watch people argue about price all day. They need a show about used car lots or something.

The baculum (also penis bone, penile bone or os penis) is a bone found in the penis of most placental mammals. It is absent in humans, but present in other primates, such as the gorilla and chimpanzee. The bone aids sexual intercourse by maintaining sufficient stiffness during sexual penetration. The female equivalent is the os clitoridis - a bone in the clitoris.

This is clearly the future. In stead of old guys getting little blue pills, they get elective surgery to implant a bone for rigidity.

Great show. Puts pawn stars to shame

More like the past. 100,000 years ago, Pfizer genetically altered our species to lose the baculum, so they could sell us Viagra in the present.

That one is worthy of the NRA thread!

It's like a cross between Pawn Stars and a show about weird fetishes.

I don't remember that upgrade in Deus Ex...

This is actually not entirely insane.

It's a conspiracy! Thousands of years ago, the Chinese invented gun powder so that, later, Americans would fall madly in love with it. Then, they just had to wait for a school to be shot up by some psycho made delirious by freedom, then they staged a simultaneous school attack with a knife where no one was killed, for the PR coup d'tat. Then sleeper cell Chinese agent President Obama would have the public support needed to take away our guns, thereby leaving the Chinese the opportunity to invade and conquor the US with little resistance. And that, people, is how freedom was murdered by the Chinese.

Just a spoonful of sanity helps the conspiracy theory go down...in the most delightful way.

It like National Treasure, only with less nonsense!

I loved those shows. I've still got my old VHS copy of The Maxx. Absolutely brilliant stuff. I used to rent The Head from the local video store back as a kid all the time too. What was the one about the sickly old looking vericose vein people? The Brothers Grunt or something?
