http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/11/28/dragon-age-iii-shifts-to-next-gen-aiming-for-2014

"Dragon Age III: Inquisition is headed to next-generation consoles. According to the LinkedIn resume of EA Shanghai level designer Tao Gu, the "scope of the DAIII has been chaged [sic]" and it will now "target next gen platform [sic] and will be postpone [sic] to 2014."

Gu lists his work on Dragon Age III as having taken place between March 2012 and September 2012, noting that he was the lead level designer for the EA Shanghai team and "in charge of concent [sic] and layout design from paper to engine for vertical slice."

Dragon Age III was officially announced back in September, targeted at the time for "late 2013." No specific platforms were mentioned, causing speculation even then that the game would be headed to next-gen platforms.

Little information has been revealed since, though BioWare did spill a few details at the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo in October, including information on castles, customization and more. BioWare also showed off some concept art earlier this month.

We've reached out to EA and BioWare about the shift to next-gen and will update this story with any comment we receive.

Thanks to Kotaku for the heads up.'

Well the good news is hopefully the nextgen consoles will launch next year...but the bad news is that this is going to be one expensive game.

Well, I'm not going to buy a next gen console for 3 or 4 more years, so this means I won't be able to play Dragon Age III for some time, whereas if they released it for current gen consoles I could play it next year or something.

This is terrible news.

I don't understand why EA would rather sell the game to a tiny install base, than to an enormous one.

I am was debating if to get this day 1, but now they made that decision easy. One less game I have to think about buying next year or for a few years at that.

That blows, I don't think that they will stop releasing PS3 games right after the PS4 comes out though. I mean, they still make PS2 games for certain titles so I'd be suprised if I couldn't get this for my PS3.

I don't think we'll have any 9th generation consoles by 2014, EA. Thanks for trying, though.

Seriously, though, you expected this? Right?

Wait...you'll be getting a PC before then, I thought?

That's crazy talk!

Hey, did you end up buying copies of TOR for future use?

I'm also disappointed at this news, given that I most likely won't be getting a Sony or Microsoft next gen console right at launch, and my non-upgradable laptop will most likely won't be able to run this game very well by the time it releases in 2014. Was really looking forward to playing this next year. :(

I didn't know you used a laptop.

Nice. I hear they are good laptops for a good price. I was thinking of getting my wife one a while ago.

So they can be outdated tomorrow?!

I'll probably end up having to buy a PC and then rebuying and replaying DA:O, DA:O-A, and DA2.

But I'll never be able to recreate my favorite characters :(

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 28, 2012 7:17:31 PM PST
You sound like that's a bad thing. :-)

I mean, it's not like choices carry over as much as ME...and on PC you can edit your own saves if you want. :-)

But I'm going to miss Morgrim Aeducan, Malena Brosca, Aenys Amell, Daeraethywynn Mahariel, Mallory Cousland, Gyselldryll Tabris, as well as Kermit and Melody Hawke.

It just won't be the same trying to recreate these people from memory. RPG characters are organic in nature!

If they are building it now they are using current hardware :)

Not like the 720 or ps4 are going to be any more powerful that your average $90-100 card today.

Yes. Kermit Hawke, human mage. He was helpful and diplomatic and shared an interest in blood magic with his beloved Merrill.

Anthony says:
well it was DA2, he had to be human. but kermit, seriously?

DVvM says:
You have an issue with "Kermit" and not "Daeraethywynn" or "Aenys"?
