Why aren't downloaded games ever the most updated version of the game. Had recently downloaded Portal 2 but before it could boot it had to download an update. Granted the update took less than a minute I still found it stupid.

PS3? I've noticed this too. I've had to download updates after downloading the game itself.

Yes but it has happened with pc games in the past but that is rare.

I think it's a lot easier on their end to store the original files and the patches as separate files, in case, for example, a patch needs to be pulled.

I'm always amazed too - but likely DVvM is correct, they can't easily add the update patch to the original file & as such, you need the immediate update .... same thing with physical copies - as soon as I popped in LBPK this week, I required an update ... in that case, I assume it has something to do with the crossbuy costumes for the series & possibly recognizes users who have the Vita LBP stuff - b/c when I did my bonus content DL, I received 2 for Vita at the same time ... I have been perplexed at times, wanting to dive into the game & then waiting for updates ... worried about my free RE5 from + as many people have posted it won't run - I haven't tried to play it yet, so not sure if mine is functional, but that was an 8 gb DL, would hate to start over ....

Yea! How can one person have so much knowledge about everything? Seriously, everything?!!

It's like we are talking to a personified Encyclopedia.

Back on? It's flattering that you think we ever wear pants to begin with.

Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of DVvM...more that its easier to just have the original files + patches than adding the patches to the initial download, but also the option of not installing patches isn't bad.

I also don't recall GoTY editions or collections not having the same patches as non-GoTY games (meaning you still have to D/L the patches for GoTY disk games), so...

Wonderful. The absolute surest way to get DVvM to stop responding in a thread is to say something like this.

Agreed.

I still find it weird despite it now making more sense.
