I haven't started on the newest version of Front Mission yet, that one is more like Armored Core. Armored Core offers an insane amount of customization. I think Front Mission is now following suit, but the older ones were nowhere near as in-depth.

If you'd prefer action, start with Armored Core (anywhere is fine, they're all pretty much stand-alone titles) or the newest Front Mission. If you'd prefer a strategy game get Front Mission for the PS2 and older. There's also a Front Mission DS game.

As a fan of JRPGs, you REALLY need to just pull the trigger on Xenoblade. It's by far the best one I've played since Dragon Quest VIII.

Are you playing (is anyone playing) with a guide?

McAwesomeo says:
Number of backlogged games: 75
Time To Complete: 90 Days, 18 Hrs, 21 Minutes.

Games beaten in the last month: 2
Alpha Protocol
Spider-Man: Edge of Time

Games moved to custom tab: 1
Tekken 6

Games purchased within the last month: 1
Xenoblade

Net change: -2
Net hour change: +16 days, 3 hours (!!!)

_____________________________

I forgot I'd beaten Alpha Protocol earlier in the cycle. I thought I'd only beaten Spider-Man. I didn't get much gaming in this month due to some family issues. More games that didn't have time estimates now have them like Armored Core: For Answer which added 68 hours to my backlog alone. Fortunately only 5 games without estimates remain.

Speaking of Armored Core, I did buy Armored Core V but won't be tracking that one, so my official games purchased is at 1. It's not really a game you "beat" much like Tekken 6, which was moved to the custom tab. That isn't a game that you ever say is properly beaten.

Hope you all paid your taxes.

Month 8 Evaluation leading up to 4/13/12:

- most # of games beaten in 30 days: 3 (KIRKSPLOSION, ATHAS)
- most # of games purchased in 30 days: 3 (KIRKSPLOSION)
- Backlog equal to or less then in the past 30 days: (D_STRASSE, ATHAS, KIRKSPLOSION,McAWESOMEO) = proud members of those who contributed to US game sales down 25% in March

Comments: I jumped the gun to deprive Kirk of taking sole possession of most # of games beaten.

can't believe it's already been 8 months!

I'm not using a guide (I never do). I'm not sure about everyone else. In our thread, nobody has said that they're using a guide.

I think I got most purchased last month, too. I'm not good at this backlog thing!

Good stuff.

I watched some vids last night and read the Gamespot review. I think I am going to break down and get it at some point. Prolly the day the tax return comes in.

I've been working really hard to bring down that backlog and therefore and need to be really sure about paying full price for a game. Wii stuff is a little different though I do admit (grumble, grumble.)

Month 9 - Happy MayDay, May 4th be with you & happy Mother's Day
__________________________________________________
Games purchased last 30 days: 2
1) Dark Soul - $18 (GameFly) - "AT LAST!" (cue evil laughter)
2) Space Rangers 2 - $5 (GoG) - why pay on kickstarter when a simlar game's already out at 1/3 the price?

Games beaten last 30 days: 4
1) Earthbound (iOS) - inspired Costume Quest? Good game but did drag near the end.
2) Shadowrun (iOS) - was curious since I contributed to shadowrun Kickstarter. Fun.
3) Nier (PS3) - Game's a keeper. weapon upgrade reminded me of Demon Soul. played it like an offline version of FFXI. Looking forward to Multiple endings and new game pluses.
4) Batman AA (PS3) - riddler: "how are you doing this? you must be looking it up on the internet!" (only 2, didn't understand the optical puzzles at first and the last arkham asylum, forgot where I last saw mystery x.) 3d glasses nice experience. Love especially the voice cast.

Currently playing:
1) Final Fantasy V (iOS) - once you look past the ugly graphics, this game is a barrel of job switching fun. Note: Brawling as ability is so broken.
2) Fallout 3 (ps3) - time to resuce Riley's Rangers while I try to figure out which new game to play next.

Backlog: 37 to 37 [0]
Time to Complete: from 50D/6H/29M to 52D/21H/56M*
*above time from howlongtobeat.com

Comment:

Once I adjusted for our new baby, gaming away. Dark Soul was my personal "looking forward to game purchased in 2012". FF marathon on 5. 5 months without increasing my backlog.

Hey quick question.

I'm playing Nier right now, still in part 1.

I currently have 50% sidequests complete.

Do you remember if they are evenly distributed between the 2 parts, or should I be looking for more before I push on with the story?

neu Tron says:
A lot of people I talked to that played Fallout 3 missed the Riley's Rangers mission. That was one of the most enjoyable ones, IMO.

Yep, a hotel and a hospital.

Games purchased last 30 days: 5
1) Botanicula - $9 (GoG.com)
2) Fez - $5 (XBL)
3-4) Ben There, Dan That! And Time, Gentlemen, Please! - $1 (Steam)
5) Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 - $21 (yoyo.com)

Games beaten last 30 days: 2
1) Dead Space 2 - Loved the game. Lots of great, scary, memorable moments. I'd put it on par with my enjoyment of the first game.
2) Botanicula - Lovingly-made, pseudo point-and-click adventure game. A joy to play.

Currently playing:
1) Final Fantasy XIII
2) Picross 3D

Backlog: 48 to 51 [+3]
Time to Complete: from 26D 22H 8M to 28D 6H 40M
____________________________________________________________

Also got The Witcher for free, though I haven't decided whether that will be added to the backlog or not.

Final Fantasy XIII is, unsurprisingly, slowing down the backlog progress. I've put over 20 hours into it, so I'll hopefully have it beaten by the next progress report.

51% is the cutoff for side quests on Part I. go to the sea town near the light house, talk to guy 3 times different occassion. (guessing exit the town and come back).

yeah i got caught by this too, and was only at 50% when I moved onto the part II. beat the game with 97%. which means there are prolly 2 quests not mentioned by the singing lady twins, 1 in each part most likely.

Thanks again =p

I'll check that out tonight.

Athas says:
lol np. the reason why everyone seemed to have missed that quest i mentioned is because the quest doesn't activiate until you talk to the guy on 3 different occasions.

however, even if you miss it, I don't think it's a big deal in terms of trophy/achievements, cuz when i was looking at the list, there was no mention for 100% sidequests... but I can be wrong.

Games Purchased:
*FFVI (off PSN) ($6)
*PJ Eden ($1)
*PJ Shooter ($1)
*Tomb Raider Collection ($9)

Games beaten
*Sly 2
*Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

Currently playing:
*Dead Space 2 (loving it so far)
*PJ Eden

Backlog: +4

Notes: After some great headway the last couple of months, recent sales have taken their toll. I suppose the fact the t are DLC games shouldn't make much of hit but another collection kinda hurts the backlog number. Also, very close to beating Chrono Trigger, but I just can't get into playing RPGs on the handheld at home.

I think June and July are going to be good months for the Backlog. Not too many good games coming out then.
