I've been wanting to read Mistborn for a while.

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 23, 2012 9:52:04 AM PDT
Me, too. The Way of Kings looks good, as well.

I just finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, it was 25 cents last week.
I am reading Santa Olivia on my Kindle and Get Backers when I feel like it, I also have Temple of the Winds on tap but I can't read such a giant epic straight through, having already done it before.

It does. I am a fan of his writing.

Well I definitely love what Sanderson did for Wheel of Time. I feel heretical every time I say it, but I feel like he seriously improved on the series.

I have a Brandon Sanderson book sitting on my shelf called Warbreaker. I have not read any of his material.

Shall I give it a go?

Good ole Dumas... If you like old-school swashbuckling tales in that vein you need to check out Arturo Perez Reverte. He's a modern author very much inspired by Dumas and writes some damn fine books

My high school must have sucked because it was never on any reading lists. It's effing excellent. I'm loving it. I can't put it down. I'll check out that author too. I'll make sure to copy the name. I'm at the part where the Count is at Carnivale with Franz and Albert. Day 2 of the carnival.

I enjoyed that book immensely. I wanted to read that before I tried out his work on Wheel of Time, and I was not disappointed.

I just finished re-reading Breakfast of Champions a few weeks back. I hadn't read it in about 15 years. It's one of my favorite Vonnegut books.

I'm currently reading "The Wind Up Bird Chronicle" by Haruki Murakami.

I never had to read it in High School either... Though I have to admit a lot of the best classics I've read were directly because of school. They really broadened my horizons, even if I occasionally if I had to read Sheisse like The Color Purple.

I would have much rather read it than some of the required reading we had to do.

I tried reading Mistborn, but Brandon Sanderson is a terrible writer and I could not get into it.

I detested Dickens' over the top melodramas until a literary critic in College informed me that we weren't supposed to take the books seriously. They were evidently intended to be spoofs of some of the popular melodramas that were being printed at the time.

Amazing book. Yes, it is incredibly bleak, but wonderful.

Re-reading Heart of Darkness as I'm starting the next quarter teaching it. For fun, I'm in a non-fiction/social science mood and I'm reading Steven Pinker, Blank Slate, and Daniel Kahneman: Thinking, Fast and Slow.

Yeah, The Road is, in my opinion, one of the best American works of fiction to come out in the last 25 years.

I read that. I love reading about psychopaths and serial killers; I devour anything true-crime related. Any good recommendations?

I've re-read A Confederacy of Dunces four or five times and I still laugh to tears every time.

I'm glad to hear someone else didn't like those Girl..books. I'm sure the story is fine, but the writing was so terrible I couldn't get into it.

Dunces is one of my favorites.

I think the author committed suicide before Confederacy of Dunces was every published. His Mom found the book amidst the guy's things and had it published.

All the Pretty Horses is a good read, too.
