It's probably a good idea to take extreme care of your current Wii U GamePad, as a replacement from Nintendo will cost you $150, according to one NeoGAF user.

User nbthedude shared his story on the forum, along with his receipt, and said that after Delta Airlines lost his luggage -- which included his Wii U power cord, sensor bar and GamePad -- he had little choice in where to turn for a replacement. Nintendo sells the controller itself for $140, and not the rumored $80 nbthedude said he read about prior to purchasing. After taxes and shipping his total bill came out to be $155.15.

To put it into perspective, that's half the price of the Wii U 8GB Basic Set, and as of this post, $60 more could nab you a PlayStation Vita and a game at Target, as nbthedude pointed out. Oof.

Good to know in case I need a replacement.

So put my Wii U as carry-on, gotcha.

Maybe if Ubi didn't push back the release of Legends, there would be less broken gamepads so this wouldn't be an issue.

You worried about having the replace that controller for a system you don't own Flores?

I have a few thoughts on the subject:

1) Seems a bit high given the range, resolution and battery life of the Gamepad, though I would imagine over time either the price will drop or the specs will improve. I would like to see Nintendo release a better Gamepad, I would pony up if I could actually use it thoughout my entire house.

2) I am not too worried about having to replace the unit. If Nintendo is known for anything, it is durability. Having owned all their consoles, I have never had any issues with hardware. My launch Wavebirds are over a decade old and still work flawlessly.

IDK, I don't abuse my controllers - they just were out.

How many here have replaced a DS3 or 360 pad? The sticks will just were out with use, and this isn't a good omen.

I like the idea of releasing an updated gamepad in a couple of years, but I dont see how it would work once people buy 2 or 3 of the current model. I would like to buy a second one once they go onsale, but once that happens I wont buy another one just because of the price.

Note to self: Dont throw or punch the Gamepad like I do other controllers.

I have to be honest, my launch 360/ps3/Wii/N64/SNES/GC controllers all work fine. I haven't replaced any controllers except for the Dreamcast. My Wavebirds are literally over a decade old, no issues at all.

I don't plan on buying a second one because I don't think any games are really going to use two Gamepads at once. If the hardware doesn't ship with the system, it won't really be used properly. See Move and Kinect for details. For multiplayer I expect the Pro Controller to be perfection.

Follow up question, anyone know the trade in value of a WiiU without a gamepad?

Less than $195

I haven't replaced it but I do have a DS3 that doesn't hold a charge. It just hasn't been worth it to send the thing in to Sony and pay them to replace the battery. The controller itself works fine so long as it is plugged in.

To that point, the Gamepad has a user replaceable battery, which is pretty nice.

Strasse, that is crazy. I literally have 4 launch DS3 controllers that all hold a charge perfectly and work great. Sorry about your luck. Or maybe I am just lucky? I literally never had a controller go out on me, except the Dreamcast, which had the analog literally snap on me. Three times as a matter of fact.

Que?

"The left stick just were's out"

Are you using a phone and getting autocorrected?

I highly doubt Flores posted this thread as a gesture of friendship.

Yeah, Flores posted it, but I have to say considering that again, I'm on my 3rd and 4th DS3 this is sorta useful info, at least for me.

(Though in all fairness, I'd prolly never put the hours into a Wii U that I would a nextbox or PS4 making moot point for me at least.)

For some reason i get plastic dust in them and they start to stick after a while. Not sure why, but it's happened on two of them and I remember replacing at least 1 DS2.

Yeah but let's scold the fanthings for when they actually post something annoying. This article is something that probably would have been posted by someone else even if Flores didn't.

But we complain about game micro transactions that cost no more than $5, and games being $60 on release date.
But a $150 controller is fine, oh yeah.

Plastic dust?

Are you sure it isn't silicone leaking from your breast implants?
