Most go the traditional dinner, but is there something better to do?

Aku says:
Movie/dinner tends to be my preferred start, because you get conversation fuel for the dinner and maybe get to watch a decent movie if all else fails.

...Not that I failed very often, you know!

If it is warm you could go have a cup of coffee walk around the park.
art exhibits
fairs

Basically someplace that you could get to know her better. But it really just depends on the girl. You also want it kind of quiet so that you can hear each other talk. When I dated in the past the amount of money that I would spend grately depended on how much I knew her and how good she looked.

If you're into that, that's a pretty badass first date.

There's a 101 things you can do... just make sure and stay away from the movies. Horrible first date, because you can't talk and get to know her.

That shouldn't even be a question, never let a woman pay for a single thing when your out on your first, second, third date etc...

Yes. It's expected. If you want to try and buck social norms and sexism, that is your right, but be prepared to have it blow up in your face.

MrFoxhound says:
You should... Unless you know that it's not going to go anywhere.

I went out with this one girl and she was a complete bore. It was a dinner/movie deal. So I paid for the movie, then when we got to the restaurant I said, you can pay for dinner. That way we split it 50/50. She said that she was ok with me paying, but I told her that I respect women's rights to equality and that I am not a jerk that would just assume to pay for everything. Then I ordered an expensive meal. Never called her after that.

Depends... how's the weather where you live? Will you need an outdoor, or indoor enviroment?

Kruger says:
If you invited her on the 1st date - yes.

Chances are, that if you do not screw it all up and she likes you enough to go on a 2nd date, she will either treat or ask to go dutch.

I agree with Marv about no movie. A movie is something you go to when you don't like the person.
