I vote for Breath of Fire. Since it's the last "classic" one before they tried to change it in Dragon Quarter. The changes didn't work out so well in my opinion.

Breath of Fire IV, no question.

I haven't gotten super far in either of them, but Vanguard Bandits is more of a political drama (with plenty of personal drama on the side), while BoFIV is more of a Japanese hero quest. Also, in terms of gameplay, Vanguard Bandits is a fairly typical, humdrum SRPG, while BoFIV is a good but still very typical of its time JRPG.

I like both, though I'd probably give my vote in terms of characters and story to BoFIV. It really depends on what you want.

I just feel like playing a pretty typical JRPG right now.

Was definatelly thinking about Breath of Fire, but then I saw Vanguard works on Vita too and rememeber wanting to play that back in the day.

I'll probably start with BoF then.

I say Vanguard, but both are excellent. If it was BoF III, I would say play that over Vanguard.

I really liked both, but, personally I would go with BOF IV. I've always been a big fan of the Breath of Fire series.

I'd go with Breath of Fire IV. I just beat the PSP BoF III not that long ago, was a blast. Actually never played IV myself, but it's supposed to be on par with III I believe.

I liked BofIV, but it didn't engage me like the first 3 did, but I don't know what the other game is, so I'd still rec BoF, lol.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like I can play BOF3 on Vita, not on the PSone classics list and the PSP version isn't digital.

Ah, yes it's the UK UMD 'Essentials' version no digital...It's pretty cool you can get the whole main series on the go though..

I bought Breath of Fire 1 & 2 for the Gameboy Advance (they were also a lot cheaper than the SNES versions) 3 on the PSP, and then I still need to get IV digitally. Fantastic games, wish they would reinvigorate the series somehow but Capcom is no fun.

Yeah... unless you have a PS3! Download the game for BOFIV and transfer it over. Worked fine for me.
