Just as movie critics list their top 10 films of the year in ascending order (best at the top), let us do the same with games! I'll start.

FarCry 3
Xcom Enemy Unknown
Assassin's Creed III
Mass Effect 3
Hitman Absolution
The Walking Dead
Borderlands 2
Dragon's Dogma

I started making a list, but then I realized I wasn't sure whether more than seven games I'd gotten this year actually came out this year.

I mean, I'm sure more than seven did, but I don't remember which other than those six or seven, and I don't really feel like looking them all up.

I'm glad you liked The Witcher 2!

I knew I would!

that was actually a late add, I had trouble deciding between that, Dishonored, and Spec Ops: The Line.

Geez, there's just a ton I haven't played yet, but here are some of my 2012 favorites so far:

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
Professor Layton and The Miracle Mask
Resident Evil: Revelations
New Super Mario Bros. 2
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Rhythm Thief
Fractured Soul
Mutant Mudds
Escape Plan

All on handhelds, since that tends to be the way I can make time for games these days. I hope to catch up on some home console stuff over the winter break.

Thats funny, i havent even played any of the games on these lists.
Can someone give me an insight into that Hitman Absolution? is it more like Metal Gear Solid 4 or just a straight 3rd person shooter campaign? No RPG elements right? a la Deus Ex?

XCOM: Enemy Unknown
FTL: Faster Than Light (this game came out of nowhere for me but its incredible)
Xenoblade Chronicles
The Walking Dead
Natural Selection 2
Guild Wars 2
Hotline Miami
Borderlands 2

Some of them are included on this list, but I'm pretty sure this is the first year I've bought more indie games (or at least smaller budget games, that release at less than $50-$60 bucks) within a few months of release than I have triple-A games. There've been a ton of great ones this year.

In no specific order:

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3DS
Resident Evil: Revelations
Xenoblade: Chronicles
The Last Story
Assassin's Creed III

That's all I got. I haven't finished The Walking Dead. I haven't started Far Cry 3 or Hitman: Absolution. I found Borderlands 2 to be boring, and Dishonored made me nauseous so I couldn't play the game anymore.

I would like to put Dark Souls on the list because I didn't buy it until January of this year, plus the PC version and the DLC came out this year.

Of the games I've played:

1. Assassin's Creed III
2. The Witcher 2 (currently playing, just had to make decision on Roche vs Iorveth)

wow, those are the only 2012 games I've played (still working through backlog). I own the following which are still unopened but i expect would make my top 10 for 2012:

The Walking Dead
Mass Effect 3
Max Payne 3
