Worst Video Game Story You've Played Through

Yes, we all know that video games, by and large, tell horrible stories (which, of course, isn't a bad thing because video games like Bayonetta can get over it because of their game play). But out of all the games you've played, what game has the worst story of all the games you've ever played?

For me, EASILY Dante's Inferno. That piece of crap is a complete disgrace to one of the best works in literature.

Demons/dark souls both have crappy stories.

LA Noire

Interesting, I must say. I've never played it, but from what I could tell it always seemed interesting.

I don't play videogames with bad stories.

In related news, I like most stories.

"Any fighting game."

But that would include Persona 4 Arena...

That game's story is a farcry from Persona 4.

Having the Persona 4 cast beat each other up for an entire year's worth of story doesn't sound much better.

Although I DO like the idea of watching the P3 cast beat up the P4 cast for a year. Or any amount of time.

Metal Gear Solid 4
Star Ocean IV

Tetris had a horrible plot.

The madness of a Russian scientist stuck behind the Iron Curtain, where whenever he had a good idea, "all of the pieces fit together!", but become nothingness into the void instantly because of the Russian government's thought control?!

I dunno, I thought the plot was good.

MGS4? That's an interesting pick.

Vanquish, maybe? I've played through that game a good five times and I still have no idea what it's about.

Your post has prompted me to reexamine my views on this work of art.

As for a serious answer: Metal Gear Solid 4. There are probably worse I've played but that's the most recent pick that sticks out.

For this gen, probably Bayonetta.

Possibly one of the most brilliant. Fit right in with the absurd action. Top notch insanity.

Agreed, LA Noire was pretty bad. I also didn't care for Rage's story

DVvM says:
But it was ridiculous and borderline incomprehensible!

I mean, the game itself was fun and tone of the story matched the gameplay, but if you take Bayonetta's story on its own it's kind of terrible.

My second place "worst story" game is probably Heavy Rain, FWIW.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 14, 2013 8:03:49 PM PST
I thought it was extremely well done for what it was trying to do. I'll agree with the choice of Vanquish. It had a few fun moments but was pretty forgettable when it came to story.

Half of Heavy Rain was good, the other half was lousy.

Personally, I thought Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare had a damn good campaign. Too bad the rest of the series is horrible.
