www.examiner.com/article/the-last-guardian-gets-an-ambiguous-update-on-its-release

--------------------

How long has it been since we last heard any good news from Fumito Ueda and his team behind The Last Guardian? Although today's words from Shuhei Yoshida could be misinterpreted in a multitude of different ways, there is one thing that continues to remain clear and on track: The Last Guardian will release when it's ready to be released.

And this is something that most people should be fine with. Even after six of waiting. Shuhei provided the gaming masses with an update today (kind of?) after being asked if The Last Guardian was still on schedule with a 2013 release

"No, sorry, I cannot say that... Because the last time we talked about a date for The Last Guardian, we finally disappointed many people." Fair enough, Shuhei. And hopefully that has little to no underlying meaning setting us up for a 2014 or 2015 release window which would likely see The Shadow of the Colossus's predecessor barking up the PlayStation 4 tree.

Shuhei added a bit more by saying, "The team is working hard on the project, including the engine. It is precisely because [of] the teams working on the technical aspect of the game that we have nothing concrete to show you today. So now I'm waiting for the right time to introduce you to The Last Guardian and speak with confidence of a release date."

Sounds like someone's being a bit modest. Or skittish. Whichever you prefer. Either way, it's good to see a developer really care for its product so deeply that they're afraid to display it in front of the world until it's polished to perfection. That's the mark of an artist and last time I checked, creating art is what Ueda and team have always done best.

ps4 launch title or vaporware?

"we have nothing concrete to show you today"

That isn't what I wanted to hear.

Still working on the engine is no bueno.

Kirksplosion says:
Wouldn't any release date at this point be ambitious?

JWK says:
Okay. I was gonna say, "I don't think 'maybe 2014, maybe 2015' is all that ambitious of a release date."

Well it's better than an amphibious release date. I have to play it underwater?? No way

I will think of this as a pleasant surprise if and when this ever comes out.

JWK says:
Underwater levels are the worst. But to play the whole game underwater, while I'm underwater MYSELF??? No, Team Ico. Just no.

Paper Tiger says:
I think that makes it sound like a PS4 announcement. Did they really make a new engine for this game?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 11:52:27 AM PST
got mayo?™ says:
Maybe it never had an engine to begin with. We have not seen any worthwhile build of the game in all these years . That announcement trailer could've been literally been all video.

DVvM says:
Though, with the glacial pace that TLG is setting, 2015 might be ambitious.

Whats "The Last Guardian"?

DVvM says:
The third game by the people who made Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. It's been in development since 2008 or so.

At this point all I can say is this game had better be damn good.

I kinda don't have much faith in that anymore.

I heard they've been overhauling it and turning it into a kart racer, called The Last Kart-dian.

Oh Yeah. I kind of forgot about this. Cool!

Kendahl says:
Not sure what's so ambitious about saying "We're not going to commit to a 2013 release in case it slips to 2014 or 2015"

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 12:24:20 PM PST
That Emu Kid says:
Tarantino is apparently illiterate. "Ambitious" isn't the actual word used in the title of the article.
