its too bad that increasing your strength doesn't increase the speed you can swing your weapon. I stuck with the blue blood sword as well since it has really good damage for a fast weapon.

Orin35 says:
Blueblood Sword I believe is technically the best sword in the game. It receives bonuses from all 4 stats. But the main draw of it is that you can cast light weapon on it! It's the only "crafted" sword you can make that can receive the bonus.

from all 4 stats? I thought just from luck.

StriderNeo15 says:
it gets a low bonus from str/dex/mag/faith and an extra bonus from luck. Costs a lot to use it though, which is the main drawback.

And Northern Regalia at PW or PB wt would kill it in terms of damage unless you are sl500 or something.

but BB sword has speed advantage + it could be enchanted.

Prankster says:
After I moved ahead from the Phalanx archstone, I killed those Hoplites and got a lot of hardstone and sharpstone shards. I used those to upgrade my long sword. But you guys are saying these are limited, so should I stop upgrading and use the souls I get now to buy a new weapon like the blueblood sword or northern regalia etc.? Or are these weapons attained from someone's remains?

StriderNeo15 says:
Those are mad rare weapons that you have to have very specific items to obtain. Just make sure not to use any of the souls you get from the bosses, hint hint.

Prankster says:
Yeah I haven't used any of those I guess. My lead demon's souls along with my renowned hero's souls are with Thomas. I have just kept an unknown soldier's soul with me. I didn't understand it's use exactly but am I right in thinking more souls from the enemy get added when I am using the hidden soul?

The unknown soldiers soul and its various similarly named counterparts are just more souls. Every time you use them, your number of souls will increase. They're useful if you're in the nexus after dying, and still haven't gone after your blood stain, but need a few souls to do repairs, upgrades, etc.

Ahhh right, gotcha. Thanks tron.

StriderNeo15 says:
yeah use all the souls you get as drops and stuff, just not the boss souls, as those are used for crafting.

Alright. Well, I'm just looking at my character, and yeah, the Northern Regalia does do more damage. However, since there is no modification possible to the Northern Regalia, it will always have a max of 540 damage. At sl 103, using talisman of beasts and S/D/M/F/L of 22/20/31/30/10, casting Light Weapon on the BBS gets me to 478. So while yes, it is technically more powerful at sl103, I believe by 120-140, by focusing on like 5 more str, 5 more magic, 10 more luck, I bet they would start to get really close.

My two cents anyway. By sl712, though, BBS should be the best weapon in the game number-crunch wise. S'all I was sayin.

Also, I was wrong for stat bonuses from the four. It gets zip from Dex. I was thinking luck.

EDIT: Does world tendency actually affect damage of the NR? I haven't used it, and thought it was only based on Soul Tendency.

Prankster says:
OK, so as soon as I started 1-2, I killed the hoplites but I think The Ostrava is supposed to be either there somewhere or below the first tower but I have cleared out almost the entire stage before the boss and I never found him.

Now I had rescued him in 1-1 and he had given me the telescope but after that he had walked away and while going behind him I had died immediately. After that I have never seen him there or in 1-2. So does that mean he's dead? Cuz I have heard he gives quite a lot of items till 1-4.

Also how does my soul level increase?

Prankster says:
Ahhh ok. Yeah I have leveled up then. Silly me =P

And I did clear off all those slaves. I reached the end too. He wasn't present on either side of the gate. :(

I remember NOT seeing him die in 1-1. Can I assume they killed him too when they killed me then?

Prankster says:
Yeah, that's what I thought. And there was only one path left from where I rescued him in 1-1. So I am sure he took that And I didn't see him anywhere in that world.

Isn't he supposed to die (if that is possible) in front of my eyes to let me know that something like that has happened?

I beat the Fool's Idol (3-1) this past weekend and was resurrected, and as I was exploring world 4-1 in human form, I got invaded for the first time. It was quite the rush! I encountered the phantom and ended up killing him pretty quickly. So as I'm heading back to the nexus, I get invaded AGAIN! This guy was much more skilled. We fought for about 5 minutes and he ended up just barely beating me. Still, the whole thing was pretty exciting. I'm looking forward to invading someone's game sometime soon.

StriderNeo15 says:
yeah it doesn't really matter, and you're right I misspoke and its character tendency not WT that affects NR.

And like I said in other threads I use the BBS over NR anyway, was just stating that if you want the most "powerful" as in highest damage, its probably the NR.

And sorry about Ostrava Prankster, that blows.

this game is hard. Played 3 hr and still on level 1-1 and my main sword is already broken, guest I have to restart it.

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 28, 2010 12:31:23 PM PDT
It took me 10 hrs to beat the first level Lair's. You can still beat my playthrough time...

1-1 is very hard. Hang in there. Don't forget to go back to the Nexus periodically to repair your gear and buy a few things if needed. You can kill some guys, get some souls, and head back to the beginning.

I spent 5 hours yesterday trying to beat level 4-1. By the time I was able to get to Adjuncticator (sp?) regularly, he probably killed me about 8 times before I finally beat him. Its a tough game, but the feeling of accomplishment is pretty unparalleled in games this generation.
