We on the VgF often complain about how gaming keeps adding all of these negative things, microtransactions, always online, ect... How about a positive thread. name something that has been added to games in the last couple of gens that you just can't live without.

For me, and I know many will disagree, it would be regenerating health. It allows me, a nonetooskilled player, to be able to manage most games, at least those with regen health.

I'm just happy when games are super weird at this point. That's what I can't live without, weird stuff.

Nothing comes close to the beautiful game play poetry of Lair.

I'm definitely showing my age here, but the ability to make a mid-game save rather than having to restart every time.

COVER SYSTEMS
Both Far Cry 3 and Tomb Raider both have very good natural cover systems. I hope this becomes the norm cause I hate it when enemies can take cover and I can't.

Achievements. When implemented well, They're a fun meta component to the game, and they encourage me to try things in the game that I otherwise wouldn't have. They're also good motivation for me to chip away at my backlog.

I've noticed that I don't ever really feel like playing games on the Wii, even the good ones, and part of that is that there are no achievements. I suppose I now associate them with having something to show for my efforts.

I agree. Some games I don't mind not having achievements, but for others I do like to have them kept it (or inserted/re-inserted) as it'll allow me to try out various tactics if it involves unlocking trophies for playing a level/stage in a particular way
