Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanza wore earplugs, rapidly changed clips, shot up cars in parking lot: report
Investigators puzzled by why Sandy Hook gunman Adam Lanza wore earplugs during the massacre if he knew he was going to kill himself. Separately, evidence shows Lanza reloaded his weapon before the magazines were spent, leading to questions about whether he was influenced by the first-person shooter games he spent hours playing.

Adam Lanza wore earplugs, changed clips frequently and shot up the cars of three Sandy Hook school staff members during his Dec. 14 rampage, new evidence shows.
Investigators in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting are puzzled about why gunman Adam Lanza wore earplugs on the morning he stormed the school and killed 26 people, according to a report.
Sources told the Hartford Courant that wearing the plugs may have been a habit carried over from Lanza's experience shooting at gun ranges.

Or it could have been something more sinister. He may have been trying to block out the screams of his victims, the sources said.
"It's just weird [that he used earplugs] given what he was about to go do," a police source told the Courant.
"It's not like he had to worry about long-term protection of his hearing because he had to know he wasn't coming back out of the building."
Children from Sandy Hook Elementary School returned to school last week in the neighboring town of Monroe for the first time since the shooting.
Investigators still don't know what drove the 20-year-old to carry out the horrific massacre, which claimed the lives of 20 first-graders and six teachers and staff members.

But they have pieced together a few clues that provide a clearer portrait of the Dec. 14 rampage.
In addition to the earplugs, Lanza wore all black beneath a military-style vest stuffed with 30-round clips for his Bushmaster AR-15 assault rifle, the Courant reported.

He fired about 150 rounds in all during the classroom-to-classroom spree and rapidly changed clips, sometimes after firing only half of the magazine's rounds.
Privately, investigators wondered whether the reloading habit was influenced by the endless hours the quiet, withdrawn loner spent playing violent, first-person shooter video games, the Courant reported.
Nearly a month after the shooting, police were still finding bullets and casings scattered around the school, including some in the parking lot.
Three staff members' cars, including one belonging to slain first-grade teacher Lauren Rousseau, were shot, leading investigators to wonder if Lanza opened fire on cops who responded to the shooting.
No cop cars were hit and police who were there don't remember being shot at, the Courant said.
