Pretty Lady says:
What would be the purpose of sex in video games? I can understand killing because in all stories, the hero has to defeat the bad guys. What roles would sex have though? I just can't see it happening in the future of video games.

If video games are going to be a medium like film which explores all parts of the human experience, sex needs to be one of those things. If we jes' blowin' shit up, no it shouldn't.

no because it's gross.

Pretty Lady says:
Video games don't need to be a medium like films. We are playing games to have fun. Imagine Tetris with sex? How fun would that game be? None at all.

Ice King says:
Are you talking a version of Tetris where the background is porn or one where the pieces are sexualized? I'm sure both exist.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 5, 2012 1:33:38 PM PST
Pretty Lady says:
Either one. It just makes no sense to have a game like that. The only people who would play a game like that are the ones who are not getting any.

That Emu Kid says:
I thought that when you beat the game and the rocket ship blasted off, it was a euphemism.

Ice King says:
Sure, a game like that makes no sense because Tetris has no story. But if the sex made sense in the context of the story then I could see it being ok in the game.
And if someone wants to play a porno version of Tetris then I don't really care.

You answered your own question. The role sex would have in a video game is the reward for the hero who has defeated the bad guys.

Play mass effect once and you'll understand how it can work in a game.

Dontwe watch movies to have fun? Dont people have sex to have fun?

I dont think games need more sex generally. i think that should be left upto the developer. obviously there are plenty of games that shouldnt have any , but you cant ignore that games have become a medium for telling stories,

Pretty Lady says:
So it would be okay to play a female character and have her giving the male character a bj in the game to further the story. Again, I think it would be better left out. It would not make any sense in the context of any video game story. Imagine sex in Super Mario Bros. Mario and Lugi just going in with Toadstool.

Pretty Lady says:
Can you give me the cliff notes because everyone has told me Mass Effect is the worst game ever?

AndrewA says:
You are confusing sex in entertainment with porn. No one is saying that games should have porn in them.

...And time to ignore.

Didnt something like this happen in Heavy Rain? I didnt play it, but from what i understand it fit into the context of the story pretty well. You can't really box an art form in with rules. If someone thinks that sex is an important part of what they are making whoare you to tell them otherwise?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 5, 2012 1:51:09 PM PST
Ice King says:
Sure, that wouldn't bother me. I don't even care if it furthers the story. In Saints Row 2 my character was a woman and there were pimp missions where it was strongly implied she was doing stuff to guys. It didn't bother me at all.

And again, you're talking about throwing sex into a game that has nothing to do with sex. And like last time I'll say that if a porno version of Super Mario Brothers existed I wouldn't care. If it was good enough I'd even play it.

What about nudity? They already have that. I think it is just too much. Games need to calm down and step back. I can see sex in a game like The Sims that is a simulation of real life but I just can't see it in a game like GTA, GOW or ME.

Ice King says:
So a person cutting off another person's head with a sword/chainsaw/knife/axe/etc. against their will is fine but two adults having sex with each other willingly is too much?

It's ok for a plumber to tear through a kingdom leaving nothing but death in his wake but if he wants to have consenual sex with the princess he just committed genocide for that's "too much"?

I think that if it makes sense in the context of the game's plot, then interactive sex scenes can help give more emotional impact to the story and the characters, just as long as it isn't presented in an obligatory and exploitative manner. I think the only games that have achieve this the closest are Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain. Games like God of War and Grand Theft Auto only have it for the sake of having it.... Oh wait, I forgot I'm a virgin! XP

Yes it is ok to Mutilate and kill people but totally NOT ok to display the act that brings life into the world...

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 5, 2012 1:58:13 PM PST
Pretty Lady says:
Yes. The reason is because it goes back to the good vs evil mentality. It is okay for a person to kill their enemies and protect themselves and the ones they love.

If you have a character, and part of that game is building a relationship with another character why would it be too much for sex to be a part of it?
