I've been playing Far Cry 3 yet again, and the more I play it the more I appreciate it' unique sandbox approach. It's really a great game, and it's really probably the best of the sandbox FPS games I've played. What's your favorite, and why?

Probably FarCry 3, I think it's the only one I played lol. I guess Crysis as well.

does Fallout 3 even count as an FPS? You can change it to third person and it's half rpg.

Far Cry 2? I believe it's not nearly as good (I haven't played 3 yet only 2).

Apparently some other good ones are Crackdown, Just Cause 2, and Saints Row, though I've only played Crackdown. And I believe that Metro 2033 is supposed to play like one and be really good. It's a fun genre, I'm getting into Bully at the moment, but that's not an FPS just sandbox..

While they're hybrid games, I'd say my favorite sandbox FPS are the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games and Fallout: New Vegas.

Some recent non-FPS sandboxes I've enjoyed a lot are Just Cause 2, Sleeping Dogs, and Saints Row: The Third. The first Crackdown and the Infamous games are also amazing.

On the converse, don't you hate Far Cry 2 =)

Describing it as "hate" is putting it lightly. :P I don't absolutely love Far Cry 3, but it's way better than Far Cry 2.

I haven't started Far Cry 3 yet so I'll say Just Cause 2.

Forget open world, FC3 might be my favorite shooter.

Same here. I can't remember the last straight up shooter that provided as many fun hours as Far Cry 3, and I just spent my last 2 game hours relic and letter hunting. I have nearly 25 hours into Far Cry 3, and I've loved every second of it. I only have a handful of story missions to go.

Hey, Mog, any idea where I can go to get the 60m Dive Trophy? I went out into the middle of the ocean, but it wasn't deep enough.

Does Borderlands 2 count? if so that. if not... mmm since there aren't many Sandbox FPSs... i'de have to go with Fallout 3.

I wouldn't count it, not really sandbox. Nothing much to do other than missions.

No clue, I don't think I have a single distance trophy. Not diving, free fall, wing suit, yadda yadda yadda

Just Cause 2 with the multiplayer mods.

Not to pick on you cause others seem to be confused as well, but Crackdown, Just Cause 2 and Saints Row are not First Person Shooters. They are Third Person Shooters.

I'm not gonna count Fallout 3 because it seems more like an RPG to me.

Far Cry 3 wins.
