Gamespot.com named gordan freeman (half life) as best game hero of all time...wtf?

I think he's cool, but far from the best hero of all time.

This gave me the idea to ask u guys what is your favorite game hero/character of all time?

Doesn't have to be a hero, could just be a normal character that u like.

For me my favorite vg hero is cloud from ff7. I know it seems like the obvious choice, but I can't think of any hero as cool as him.

Runners up:
Snake
Dante (devil may cry)
Kratos
Cortez (timesplitters future perfect)
Lara croft
Welkin (valkyria chronicles)

Actually as soon as I saw this thread title I thought of Gordon Freeman.

What I think is great about him is that he's just a physicist, turned fighter by necessity. One of my favorite parts in HL2 is when you're at that prison trying to rescue Eli Vance (I think that's his name, been a few months). On the building's speaker system you hear Dr. Breen telling the human Combine soldiers who are fighting you that because Gordon Freeman is a physicist (and not even a great one at that) with no military training whatsoever, the soldiers are basically imcompetent for failing to cathc him time and again. That actually made me laugh.

Gordon Freeman barely edged out Mario, a true classic. The little plumber was robbed!

BTW, the GS thing started out with 64 contenders in a bracketed "tournament" of voting. But I'm not looking at GS anymore, because I promised Wolfpup that I wouldn't. :)

I would say Link, and I am truly shocked that he isn't on that list. Link is a true hero in every sense of the word, and he has been with gamers' memories for such a long time. He has been through much more than any other character short of Mario.

My top 3 in no particular order.... Eddie Riggs, Link, and a tie between Niko Belic and Leon Kennedy.

Posted on Oct 17, 2009 8:24:49 PM PDT
and maybe MAYBE Red from Red Dead Revolver.... loved that game so much.

Eddie Riggs deserves mention too. He's simply too metal for words \m/

Backseat: I'd probably include all of those(FeiFongWong is actually a name I have used in WoW a lot for my toons, lol). My list would be endless if I included all of them =/

I'd also like to mention a weird one. Bahamut. This dragon just owns, especially in Advent CHildren(not a game, but whatever).

Oh yea....bahamut rocks!!!

Auron would be my pick, I am also a fan of Kite from .Hack as well. He was way less whiney than Haseo.

The vampire from FFVII (Vincent?)

Vincent Valentine sounds like a porn name, so he may trump my picks.

If this was still the 90's I'd have to say Sonic. Nowadays, Frank West for sure. I wish I had free reign over a shopping mall with nothing but my underwear, a Servbot mask, tons of wine and a lawnmower.

Okay, this next one is pretty obscure, and he's not so much a character as an actual player:

Istvaan Shogatsu. A few years ago, he helped orchestrate the assassination of the CEO of one the biggest corporations in EVE Online, coupled with the theft of that corporation's assets, valued at something like $16,500 in real world money. He was mentioned in an article in PC Gamer, and that article was the first thing I had ever really heard about EVE, and I've been fascinated with the game ever since.

A customer says:
Solid Snake is the ultimate tragic hero. His life on its own is literally destined to be meaningless, but he still chooses to fight for what he believes in, regardless of how history will perceive him (Like The Boss). Along with Son Goku, Snake is one of the most noble characters to ever come out of Japan. Also, Ocelot is definitely on my greatest villains list.

Snake deserves the nod because he has to endure alot of confusing ass dialog as well. I have played 4 of the games and still can't tell you what The Patriots, La-li-lou-lei-lo, nanomachines, the war economy, Raiden's nakedness, who the hell Ocelot is working for, and so much other stuff that snake has to put up with...

Favorite villains:

Sephiroth (ff7)
Kefka (ff6)
Adachi (persona 4)
Seymour (ff10)
Ganon (zelda)
Vayne (ff12)

Greatest video game hero of all time? The X-COM recruit. Put yourself in his shoes for 5 seconds and you'll know why (and if you don't get this, slap yourself silly then do yourself a favor and go search for the first two games in the series and play them).
