I would love an expert opinion on this. I'm certified by my state as a safe and conscientious user of firearms on multiple levels, and I notice a bunch of things that bother me, but I don't play a lot of gun-games and I would defer to your expertise.

Well, if the new "assault weapons ban" is as asinine as the old (expired) one, I have no problem with blocking it.

Before we can ban "assault weapons" can someone please tell me what one is?

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 14, 2013 7:40:45 PM PST
It's a weapon you use to assault things with, obviously.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 14, 2013 7:45:41 PM PST
I mean, is this something we can define about a weapon before someone is assaulted with it?

The old assault weapons ban identified "assault weapons" by superficial characteristics (like a bayonet mount or a pistol grip.) If someone is pointing a gun at you, you're more worried about the part the bullet comes out than about the bayonet. You're not going to make a weapon significantly more deadly or threatening by duct-taping a knife to the front.

This was said to create distraction from discussing the actual mechanics of gun violence that is unique to the US.

You'd make a lot of weapons significantly more deadly or threatening by duct-taping a knife to the front. Everything from a stick to a lot of pistols can be made both more deadly and more threatening by duct-taping knives to one or both ends.

Well, if you had a gun with a knife strapped to the front of it, and you are in a self-defense scenario where you are defending yourself and your loved ones from a pack of deranged maniacs and are legally entitled to use deadly force, what percentage of the aforementioned maniacs do you intend to stab rather than shoot?

That depends on how good the gun is. There have been a lot of really lousy guns made, where as a knife is pretty handy as long as it isn't liable to snap simply by stabbing somebody.

That's really my only point.

That and that staves are totally more intimidating with knives taped to the end.

This country has a serious problem with bayonets. Thank God that ban stopped all the mass bayonetting.

Penn and Teller did that on their show, it was on video games if I remeber right, they took a 9 year old kid that played shooting games a lot out to a firing range and let him shoot an assualt rifle, the kid shot it once and ran to his mom crying. They found no connection from video games to crime, although I not sure if their show does a great deal of homework on an issue or not.

If they really like it you take them aside and say,

"Dexter, if you're going to kill let me teach you how to kill the right people".

I dont agree with the guy about video games but i dont see how this game is hypocritical. shooting at a target at a gun range is very different from shooting someone in the balls for bonus points.

Spoken like a true liberal Obom-bot!

Give me liberty or give me death.

This is why I think Wayne LaPierre is a twunt. He could have said guns are no more to blame than violent video games but instead he had to take the a-hole route and say that guns have nothing to do with these shootings and it's all video games' fault.

I had some sympathy for the NRA at first but after that I couldn't care less what happens to them.

I may not be a big NRA guy (though I was a junior member when I was a teenager), but I don't see the hypocrisy here.

Yeah, train your kid to be a killer as long as they kill the "right" people.

You sound like a person that shouldn't have a gun.

And you sound like a person who has never seen Dexter.
Which I realize is entirely possible. I apologize for the rudeness if you haven't.

FOGE says:
"It wasn't me", says the boy with the gun
"Sure I pulled the trigger but it needed to be done
Cause life's been killing me ever since it begun
You cant blame me cause I'm too young"

"You can't blame me sure the killer was my son
But I didn't teach him to pull the trigger of the gun
It's the killing on this TV screen
You cant blame me its those images he seen"

Well "You can't blame me", says the media man
Well "I wasn't the one who came up with the plan
I just point my camera at what the people want to see
Man it's a two way mirror and you cant blame me"

"You can't blame me", says the singer of the song
Or the maker of the movie which he based his life on
"It's only entertainment and as anyone can see
The smoke machines and makeup and you cant fool me"

It was you it was me it was every man
We've all got the blood on our hands
We only receive what we demand
And if we want hell then hells what well have

"Right" people:

Rush Limbaugh
Bill O'Reilly
Michelle Bachman

I'm starting to have a hard time with his idea.

Personally, I don't care what guns they ban, I'm just unsure of the efficacy of any ban.

FOGE says:
Yeah. Im not really buying into the conspiracy theory just yet. These events happen. I think its more likely that the govt just waited for an event to happen and then is capitalizing on people emotions to pass their gun laws.
