Gears of war 3
Fallout 3
Resident evil 4
Sonic adventure
Legend of Zelda ocarina of time

I'm torn between Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World. My favorite would be SMW but I honestly gotta say SMB3 is the greater game overall of the 2. It introduced so much to the Super Mario series, from the over world map to Mario having items to select.

I didn't play the sequels nearly as much as the original. Nostalgia has a way of affecting your judgement.

Grim Fandango.

It's an absolute work of art. It should be in the Smithsonian, but almost nobody's going to have a chance to play it since LucasArts (and now Disney) have no reason to do anything with the rights.

I agree that Grim Fandango is a work of art! Simply a terrific work. So imaginative, funny, and full of heart.

Well, if we're talking about a game that paved the rest of my video gaming hobby, it would have to be Metal Gear Solid on the PSOne. Sure, I played SMB and Sonic and the ilk before that, but MGS was the first game that got me into the storylines in video games, showing me what can be accomplished while at the same time blowing me away. I blame MGS for my love for storylines 0.o

Plus, it is simply an amazing game that holds up today.

Oh wow, I just realized that no one has mentioned Doom yet. Considering how FPS is probably THE genre nowadays, Doom should win.

The original RE paved the way, but RE 4 was my favorite game I've ever played. I still have a huge backlog of PS3 games, so that might change when I get around to them.

Mass Effect 1.

A real inventory, hardcore RPG elements, and you can't forget the Mako. Exploring all those desolate planets was fantastic. It's funny how Bioware claims to listen to fans, yet does the opposite of what people want in the end.

I bought an Xbox 360 just for this game. For me it is the ultimate science fiction experience. What really throws this game over the top is the excellent soundtrack. This is the only game I've ever sat through the ending credits for.

A second vote for A Link to the Past. It's rare for a 20 year old game to play just as well today as it did when it was released.
