C LEVELAND (AP) -- A woman caught on camera driving on a sidewalk to avoid a Cleveland school bus that was unloading children will have to stand at an intersection wearing a sign warning about idiots.

Court records show a Cleveland Municipal Court judge on Monday ordered 32-year-old Shena Hardin to stand at an intersection for two days next week. She will have to wear a sign saying: "Only an idiot drives on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus."

The judge ordered her to wear the sign from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. both days.

Hardin's license was suspended for 30 days and she was ordered to pay $250 in court costs.

Messages seeking comment were left at a telephone listing for Hardin and at her attorney's office.

Of course it was Cleveland. As soon as I saw the thread title I had a feeling it would come out of this city....

Ugh.

I get the hatred of being behind a school bus. It can really slow down your ride to work, there's one on mine that makes a stop every hundred feet or so for about a mile, then has to take a left turn on a busy road where no one lets them go which further holds us up, but I would never do something as crazy as drive on a sidewalk to avoid it.

Well, at least she'll be able to talk on her Obamaphone for those two hours she's standing there.

a court ordered public humiliation?

It debatable if it's cruel, but it's definitely unusual. Someone call the ACLU!

This isn't unpresidented. There is a judge in Florida that does the same thing with shoplifters and the like.

Personally, I think it's kind of stupid. Like having to wear a dunce cap in grade school.

This judge was probably just show-boating to retain his/her seat in the election.

MrFoxhound says:
She got off way too easy. 30 days suspended license and only a $250 fine? She could have injured or killed someone, not to mention the fact that this happened multiple times and it was the last time when the bus driver filmed it.

Her license should be revoked permanently, and she should have to go to anger management and safe driving schools as well as her fine should be some where in the thousands.

This is just a slap on the wrist and a minor inconvenience.

FOGE says:
Personally, I think passing a school bus full of 60 kids and driving on the sidewalk is kind of stupid. I think she should be spayed.

Judge Peter Miller was elected in 1984 and has never had an opponent in a re-election campaign. He plans to retire in January.

You were told to keep your facts to yourself, boy.

Agreed.

But, this is Cleveland. They'll probably never see the $250 anyway.

Shanghaied says:
Personally, I think the judge and court could have EASILY charged her with reckless endangerment, and that could have been a felony charge.

I'd rather hold a sign for 2 hours spread between 2 days.

no, that's really stupid. The sentence is just kind of stupid.

How has this shit not been deleted for using the 'i' word?

I think it's because it wasn't directed at a specific person.

Okay, so I was wrong. It's still kind of stupid. Why not just make her wear a dunce cap for the duration of her suspended license?

I really wouldn't want my tax dollars to pay a court officer to follow this woman around 24-7 to make sure she was wearing that hat. It would be awkward in the shower too, and when she was pinching a loaf.

a few staples are much cheaper than a court officer.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2012 8:19:39 AM PST
Probably about the same price as a bullet.

Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out. amirite?

We need more cases handed down that have the offender publicly humiliated. Good job, Judge.
