I don't even know what it is to begin with. I try to stay away from fads and memes that'll only deteriorate my brain.

GarionOrb says:
What baffles me is that the song, "Harlem Shake", which is one of the worst and most repetitive songs ever made, is now #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 because of this meme...

You don't want to know.

Someone is dancing while everyone else is just going on with their lives to the song. When they say, "Do the Harlem Shake" in the song, then everyone starts dancing.

It's really dumb, but the washing machine... I love it.

How did this even become a thing?

When the majority likes something, it's best to avoid it like the plague. This is why true Democracy doesn't work.

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch."

Shouldn't it be called the Harlem Snake?

Because young people are stupid, not all young people are stupid, but most of them are.

Kirksplosion says:
You are. Wish I could say the same.

I've seen only a couple, as once you've seen a single Harlem Shake video you're set for life. I just don't understand the trend. Slender Harlem Shake was kind of clever.

Yeah, I guess I don't really "get" the YouTube fad, I always want to be playing video games or hanging out with my family.

There was a time when I was entertained by dum videos and such, but I'm too busy for it anymore. The last time I actually used facebook on my computer was months ago. Now I just look at it on my phone when I'm on the toilet or in traffic.

Ice King says:
The first time I heard of it was someone on Facebook complaining that it's being done too much. I looked up a couple of videos and it's pretty annoying.

Apparently it's been around for a long time and the version we see today is just white people stealing black culture.
At least, according to MSNBC. They had a segment on one of their shows (I forget her name, she has a very bad lisp) where she was complaining about it. Then she had some dance crew do the "real" Harlem Shake that seemed pretty much like the others except professional dancers were doing it.

There was a video online where people in Harlem react to Harlem Shake videos. I got more enjoyment out of that than most of the actual harlem shake videos.

::rolls eyes:: Its just people being goofy. I Think its kind of awsome how fast that spread, and it beats planking. We are a melting pot, can you honestly name one thing that isnt "stealing" from someone elses culture, besides it's clear in the videos that noones actually TRYING to do the Harlem shake?
