This is exactly it, and it's not the case for RE4 and 5. I stopped arguing with Fox about it though, he won't let go of that take.

20 degrees? What the hell are you talking about? The camera is right behind Leon's the whole time so when Leon turns around the camera swings behind him and I can see what he sees. That's quite a bit more than 20 degrees.

But you move left and right the same way in RE1 as you do in RE4. But RE4 is this revolutionary game because of the over the shoulder camera which is just as limiting as fixed cameras in a pre-rendered environment.

Up moves forward, down moves backward, no matter what direction you are facing, left and right turn....not strafe.

You move the character around and the camera follows. RE4 doesn't have a full 3D, player controlled camera, the only camera control you get is with the C stick or from aiming, but when you aim your rooted into place.

.... You knew what I meant and yet you tried to take issue with it for no reason hence my not bothering. The way I see it I'm moving the character, the camera follows the character, thus I'm controlling the camera. There's no reason to get into the technicalities of what controlling the camera means and controlling the character which has a camera that follows them means.
